Pieces Of Life/Songs of Living

LIFE

Hell, I'm just an actor in a play.
This life is far from real.
I play the hand dealt each day.
Tomorrow?
What do I care for tomorrow,
When today's hand is just too much?

THE   RENDEZVOUS

The sun gone dark; the leaves blown dry.
The faded stars; our love is gone.
The emptiness of vanished dreams;
The happy times, Oh, well it seems.
The winter snow, that chills gray bones.
I held you tight;  farewell to night;
Our love is gone.

SONG OF THE SEA A picture hanging on a wall; A boat that's lost with sails full. And mountains of water, Moving, continuously swaying. The ship to rise, and then to fall. A rising impression of a gale, From nature's white capped drink. And continuous motion, Back and forth; to and fro, The ship to rise, and then to sink.
THE LECTURE Booming voices shatter silence serene. Disturbing those of us who dream. Disrupting gentle thoughts that flee, Unnerving Kings and Queens to be. Monotones and boring din, We fight the battle, though we can't win. Ah, sweet sleep, a welcomed friend. Won't this lecture, ever end?
WINTER, NATURES WONDER The sky deep gray; no stars in sight. The wind rears on with all it's might. The trees both black and statue like, And the earth is cold and frozen tight. Winter with her season cold Is here with us once more. With carried storms deep in her pack, She stops at every door. A message in snow she leaves behind; That's heaven sent for every mind. A story's told for all mankind, Of sorrow or cheer for each to find. LIVING TO BE FREE Freedom is something you do, more than say. It's something you work for, each and everyday. But sometimes we don't work as hard as we should, And we forget to take the bad with the good. We need to work harder, and it's time to start now. We CAN make a difference, but need to make a vow. All I'm saying is I wish everyone could see, That we only live life once, so let's try to live it free. LIFE IN SIXTY-ONE The stars whose heavenly glow, is ecstasy to my eyes Twinkle with a shimmering fantasy. The moon, whose shining spears pierce my heart's armor Appears with Venus at her side. The sky, a sea of untrodden magical mysteries Surrounds the earth itself. The mountains seem, to me, as tall strangers Who spy, and record our ways. And the trees, tall and majestic Are guards who stand and watch eternally, Looking for intruders; guarding against the unwanted. THE PARTY Long lanky appendages Buckled knees with hands held high. Distorted stances where torsos bend, And music loudly sounding. Reverberating voices, In halls of cardboard sheets. And colored lights are dancing To the sound of shuffling feet. The King of Blues in attendance, In the form of molded wax, And grinning faces find themselves In a world of fantasy. Fine felines flaunt slender shapes, In corners they duly stand, And high choked dudes, with Afro-heads, Offer hopeful hands. The lights turned low, almost unseen, The grinding couples slowly move, And every soul within this room, Is in love and in the groove. NIGHT READING The autumn wind whispers at my window. I snuggle up in my easy chair, Seeking some warm spot for my chilled bones, Reading Poe. The dead leaves swirl along the ground, Perhaps doing some mystic dance. The willow weeps sighing. Its branches bend like the fingers Of some strange demon. My feeble lamp flickers as though It too must heed to some unknown master. The full moon hangs yellow in the sky, Like a beacon of some ghostly distant lighthouse. My heart begins to beat faster; The shadows from my lamp suddenly grow, And I rush for the door, and seek the comfort Of my TV. set.
WHAT WILL YOU DO? When the sun falls from the sky Will you be there to catch it? And what will you do? How about that bird that fell from its nest. You don't dare touch it; You got important work on your desk. So do you let it die? What will you do? You hear a million voices crying; You see a million people dying. Do you sit there just sighing? What will you do? And when something happens close to home, Do you think about it? Maybe write a poem, but 'ya still alone. What will you do? You listen about ecology, And about a Black man struggle to be free. And you wish you had some company. What will you do? Look outside at your gray world. It was once green and as innocent as a little girl. So you bite upon your artificial pearl, And you wonder. You can't sit in church or wait for a Christ, 'Cause the time is late, so you pray with all your mite. Look up to the sky, You hear no calling, And now you see the sun is falling. What will you do?TERRY You sheltered me when I had no roof. You clothed me, gave me the keys to you car. When "trouble" was my middle name, You saw that I changed it to caring. You gave me new life, but most of all, You understood and listened. You taught me that writing my feelings On a piece of paper, was worth the effort, and I grew. You became my brother, my friend. You reminded me that family Is not just a word, That blood is indeed thicker than mud. I can now be an adult, Because you gave me the respect I longed for. Yet I could still be your little cousin, Filled with precious memories and secrets. Because of you, our roots grow strong, Our branches spread to embrace the heavens, Touching the face of Grand Pa, and Grandma, Uncle Gordon, Uncle Bunk, and all those who have passed. The love of family is eternal, it unites us, and anoints our souls. I bathe in it's glory. You held my hand as a child, now I take your hand as a man and say, "I love you".
WARM AND GENTLE WIND We walk together Knowing what lies in each others hearts. I begin to speak But you touch my lips with, your finger tips, For you already know what I'm about to say. You kiss me, We run through the summer grass. Alas, we are alone. You make a ring from a vine. A tear forms in your eye, for it's too small. I kiss you and we taste love's wine. We lie under a tree, Where I carved your name and mine. Listen to the warm and gentle wind, For it tells of our love, the beginning and the end. MAMA RACHEL, DADDY BILL Two strong endearing hearts. Love's shinning armor encased. Giving each other the sweet breath of youth, While pursuing life's torrid race. Reminding us always, of the value of caring, The true meaning of family. The love they share is like warm sun rays, Which dance upon your face in the middle of winter. The three children they brought into the world, They nourish with the only true nectar, God's love; The garden from which our family tree grows. They need not praise, yet I must praise them, For they helped my spirit soar, When my spirit was lost. They gave of themselves, UNSELFISHLY! I love them more today, then yesterday, If that is possible. When I was small I called you Mama Rachel and Daddy Bill. As I grew older, out of respect, I would say, Aunt Rachel and Uncle Bill. However today, from my heart and soul, With great love, I say, Mama Rachel and Daddy Bill you honor us all with A magnificent branch that grows Upon our family tree. LOVE FLOWS Love flows as time grows and changes. Where once the flame shone, bright and fiery, Pulsating with uncontrollable fury, There now, a smooth steady beat. No less powerful and all consuming, But with a regulated intensity. Time moves and love soothes those yearnings Maybe a question here, a doubt there, A tearful word, a frantic thought. But love, a blinding, burning All encompassing wave, triumphs joyfully, Bringing peace and satisfaction. Love grows as time flows. The time passes slowly as, We turn and look, longingly back over the years, And realize how lucky, To have had 30 years of happiness.
PRAYERS FROM THE HEART Prayers from the heart are never silent, They are expressed on a different plane. God hears each and every lament. Prayers from the heart are accepted with joy. God understands our every need, Whether the request comes from a girl or boy. God gladly waters the seed. Prayers from the heart are truer than you think. They come with such passion and innocence, They are never false and flow without instinct. They are not showy, but are presented with Humble eloquence. Prayers from the heart are what you want. They quietly express your true love, For all things in this world, And in all the heavens.
A FORGIVENESS PRAYER Forgiveness and love abide in a relationship that's true. I don't ever want to hurt you. True love is forever and not for just the moment. I don't ever want to bring you disappointment. Forgive any shortcomings you see in me and continue To forever be the love of my life, Until eternity.
