CUSTOMER COMPLAINT REPORTS
Setting Up the Icons On Your Workstation
Purpose
The Customer Complaint Report program group and its icons may be set up on a local workstation in order to give direct access to the Customer Complaint Report files. Once set up, each Complaint Report icon will open up a specific Microsoft Access database or Excel worksheet.
Overview
The Customer Complaint Report files are stored on the ICELSI2\COMMON drive in the subdirectory CCM. Connection to that drive will therefore be necessary, first of all, in order to set up the program group; and second, in order to access the Complaint Report files on a daily basis.
The procedure may be outlined as follows: Once initial access to the ICELSI2\COMMON drive is established, the Customer Complaint Report group file (CCM.GRP) is copied from the server to the WINDOWS subdirectory on the local hard drive (C:\WINDOWS). Then using Program Manager, the new program group is set up. After this is done, the icons within this program group will appear automatically.
Procedure
- Step 1: Check for an Existing Connection to the ICELSI2\COMMON drive:
- Open File Manager.
- From the onscreen menu, select Disk / Select Drive.
- Scroll down through the drive choices. If ICELSI2\COMMON is listed, click once to select it, then click on OK. File Manager will display that drive and its directory tree. Proceed to "Step 2: Copy the Group File."
Note: If ICELSI2\COMMON is not listed, proceed to the Appendix, "When the Drive is Not Connected," for help.
- Step 2: Copy the Group File
- In File Manager, scroll down the ICELSI2\COMMON tree to find the subdirectory CCM. Single-click on CCM to select. The files in subdirectory CCM will be displayed.
- Under subdirectory CCM, find the file CCM.GRP and single-click to select.
- From the onscreen menu, select File / Copy. The Copy window will appear (see below). The file CCM.GRP should already be displayed in the "From:" box. If not, type it in. In the "To:" box, type in the destination directory, C:\WINDOWS. Click OK. A copy will be placed in your WINDOWS directory.
- Step 3: Add the Program Group
- Go to Program Manager.
- Select File / New. The New Program Object window will appear.
- Single-click on the selection Program Group. Then click OK. The Program Group Properties window will appear (see below).
- In the "Description:" blank, type "Customer Complaint Reports." In the "Group File:" blank, type "CCM," the name of the group file already placed in C:\WINDOWS. Then Click OK. The program group and its icons should appear in Program Manager. Any unneeded icons may be deleted (see "Step 4: Customize the Program Group," below).
- Double-click on each icon to test its operation.
- Step 4: Customize the Program Group
- Unneeded Customer Complaint icons may be deleted as follows: (a) single-click to select the icon; (b) press the Delete key; and (c) confirm deletion.
- Size the program group and choose its location in Program Manager as desired. To save custom settings, select Options / Save Settings on Exit from the onscreen menu. Windows will then save current settings upon closing the Windows program.
Appendix
When the Drive is Not Connected
Connection to the ICELSI2\COMMON drive is necessary, first, for Initial Access, in order to set up the program group. Then the workstation must be reconnected for Daily Access each time the Customer Complaint Report files are to be used. Several methods are described below. Note: if you are unable to connect to this drive, contact your ELS help desk for assistance.
- Initial Access
- The ICELSI2\COMMON drive may be connected by typing the following command at the MS-DOS prompt:
net use p: \\icelsi2\common
in which "p" is any drive letter not currently in use (other than "a," "b," or "d"). Be sure there is a space between the colon and the first backslash.
- The drive may also be connected from File Manager. Go to the onscreen menu and select Disk / Network Connections. The Network Connections window will appear (see below). In the "Network Path:" box, type in:
\\icelsi2\common
In the "Drive:" box, select a drive letter not currently in use (other than "a," "b," or "d"). Click on the "Connect" button, then on "Close." Now that the drive is connected, proceed with "Step 2: Copy the Group File," above.
- Daily Access
- For regular daily use of the Customer Complaint Reports, connection to the ICELS01\COMMON drive may be made by either of the two methods described above in "Initial Access." However, this requires going through the connection process the first time the files are accessed on any given day. Therefore, the method described below is recommended.
- A connection to ICELS01\COMMON can be made automatically by modifying the Program Manager properties of each icon. To do this, single-click on one of the icons to select it. From the onscreen menu, select File / Properties. This opens the Program Item Properties window. In the "Command Line:" box, a path similar to the following will appear:
L:\apps\excel5.exe p:\ccm\east.xlw
Modify the command line by including the server in the path, as follows:
L:\apps\excel5.exe \\icels01\common\ccm\east.xlw
This change will allow the Complaint Report icon and its associated program to connect automatically to the ICELS01\COMMON drive as it is launched. Repeat this process for each of the icons in the group.
