Writing & Technical Writing
Stewart & Stevenson: Additions and corrections to a military vehicle manual (FMTV), plus two nitrogen pumper manuals, 2-1/2 months. Included research, consultation with engineers, on-site equipment examination, design of graphic representations, and the writing of instructions and descriptions.
Stewart & Stevenson: A second, more recent assignment, writing Operating and Maintenance (O&M) and installation manuals for turbine-generator units using the G.E. LM2500 and LM2500+ gas turbines, 6 months.
Other: Instructional documents and technical communications related to Lotus Notes while at Shell Oil Company (see below). Ad copy for several small businesses and organizations. Freelance writing, part-time, for 10 years, placing special-interest articles, book reviews, and other pieces in national and local publications. Articles as well as copy for my own electronic newsletter and personal website, including HTML coding and page design. Numerous academic research papers during graduate studies.
Desktop Publishing
Texas Cancer Data Center (M.D. Anderson): Formatting, editing, and charts for 6th edition of major medical survey, Impact of Cancer On Texas, 2 months.
Certex Houston: ISO-9000 publishing project, including text formatting, scanning and inserting graphics, and consultation with project administrators, 6 months.
Shell Oil Company: Published a variety of online instructional materials for Lotus Notes 3.2 / 3.3 / 4.1.
Lone Star Gage & Calibration, Inc., Houston: Wrote installation and operating instructions for the FaxPress fax program, specific to that organization. (Also provided installations, troubleshooting, and small group training.)
Other: Ad and form design for a small construction business, plus several other businesses and organizations. Various charts, graphs, slides, presentations, and other graphics.
Software & Computing
Shell Oil Company: Lotus Notes 3.2 / 3.3 / 4.1 support, 6 months, including local and remote installations, database setup, technical writing / publishing (see examples below), and continuing support.
Industry, Distribution & Construction
Rex Supply, Briggs-Weaver and Central Transportation: Over 2 years in industrial supply and transportation warehousing, including inside sales, order expediting, shipping / receiving, and materials handling.
Engineering Technology Department, Texas A&M: Broad technical and hands-on training, including machine shop, foundry, welding, power transmission, drafting, etc.
Residential construction with a small private firm, combining office administration and field work, 2 years.

Formally trained in adult education at the graduate level.
Shell Oil Company: Lotus Notes training and orientation. Included both classroom and one-on-one instruction.
