The Terza Rima is an Italian form using linked tercets set in a specific rhyming sequence. The middle line of each stanza must rhyme with the 1st and 3rd lines of the following stanza . A single line ends the poem providing a rhyme for the middle line of the final tercet. A Terza Rima can be any length.

Terza Rima #1

It's poets that I most admire
Men like Frost, Pinsky, Pound
Whose winged words carry me higher.

And women too, poetics sound
from Rich and Silko, Plath and Dove
I love their words and thoughts profound.

These poets sing of hate and love,
of peace and war, the loss and gain
their songs lift troubled hearts above

Yet we do not honor or sustain
the poets who in our midst exist
to remind us of the truth, our pain.

Still they shall be heard, their words persist.
