        Moscow 1597
        Gold, precious stones
        Hammering, engraving, niello
        24.5x14.2 cm

One of the best pieces of jeweler's art of Godunov's time. The exquisite shape of the vessel harmonizes with a delicate floral pattern which is most skillfully engraved and nielloed. The inscription on the base, encircled in four figured frames gives the name of the donor, Boyar Boris Godunov. The chalice was donated by him to the Trinity St. Sergius Lavra in 1597.
