March 19

"How the gold has lost its luster, the fine gold become dull!" Lamentations 4:1.

How tragic! "The son said to him, `Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'" Luke 15:21. This precious son lost his luster when he went into the far country and squandered his wealth on riotous living. This beautiful young boy who once lived with a father who dearly loved him suddenly realized what he had lost when he fed pigs. He had been raised to love and respect his father, but he wanted his independence and his way. He finally lost both. He now wanted his luster–his honor–back.

Our fine gold is tarnished when we use God's invaluable gifts to us (for they were bought at the highest price) for profane purposes. He graces us with singular talents but, when we don't develop them, we keep ordinary what could have been made extraordinary for Him and others.
God never meant for us to scrape off each other's fine gold with the broken pottery of the world, as Job scraped himself among the ashes. Ignoble uses of noble gifts is exactly that. God must cringe at the meanness of so many lives. All the media seems to be reaching into the bottom of the barrel to cater to our prurient interests. We become what we behold, and what we are hauling from the base of life reeks to heaven. God never meant for us to reach down and grasp; He wants us to stretch up and claim our share in His promises and blessings.

"I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire" Revelation 3:18. God wants us to exchange our potsherds that gather the scrapings of life for His cup of blessings. God's gold cup is made of beautiful and sterner stuff and gathers the joys. In that blessed cup He offers us not the crumbs of life but the whole loaf of life, the very Bread of Life itself.

Both the Ark of Israel and Aaron's calf were made of gold. We have a choice. "But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold," God's gold, not fool's gold, as was Aaron's calf.

When Jesus is the host no guest goes empty from the table. Our head is satisfied with the precious truth which Christ reveals; our heart is content with Jesus, as the altogether lovely object of affection; our hope is satisfied, for whom have we in heaven but Jesus? and our desire is satiated, for what can we wish for more than "to know Christ and to be found in him"?

 

If we want blessings from God, nothing can fetch them down but faith. Prayer cannot draw down answers, from God's throne except it be the earnest prayer of the man who believes. Faith is the angelic messenger between the soul and the Lord Jesus in glory.

Philosophy Of Life



Life is an endless struggle, full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually you find a hair stylist you like.

The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing in the right place, but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

Time may be a great healer but it's also a lousy beautician.

Brain cells come and go but fat cells live forever.

Life not only begins at forty, it begins to show.

You don't stop laughing because you grow old; you grow old because you stop laughing.

It is bad to suppress laughter; it goes back down and spreads to your hips.

Age is important only if you're cheese and wine.

The only time a woman wishes that she were a year older is when she is expecting a baby.

Inside some of us is a thin person struggling to get out, but he/she can usually be sedated with a few pieces of chocolate cake.

What A Friend

 


"Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance?"

Micah 7:18

 

How  we crave to be forgiven by God and by man! Who is a God like this who suffers long with our sins and doubts? Who is this who withdraws the plumb line of judgment? "I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line" Isaiah 28:17. God's people are made according to His standards, and we are expected to be true to these standards. But when we are tested, we are found to be out of plumb. We are not up to God's measurements.

    "For the Son of Man came to seek and save what was lost" Luke 19:10; "For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners" Matthew 9:13. Since we are all sinners, that means us. What hope this gives us! What a Friend we have in Jesus: "And here is how to measure it--the greatest love is shown when a person lays down his life for his friends" John 15:13 TLB. This is the plumb line: love.

    "And I pray that you. . .may have power. . .to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled with the measure of all the fullness of God" Ephesians 3:17-19. Any friendship is measured by the depth of its affection in the sacrifices it makes and the burdens it bears. Jesus is indeed the Friend of humanity.  

Moses asked God to show him His glory; instead, God chose to show Moses His goodness (Exodus 33:18,19). "And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, `The Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousand, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin'" Exodus 34:6,7. How can we not love such a God as this!
