O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
1 Corinthians 15:55
There is no death! the stars go down
To rise upon some other shore,
And bright in Heaven's jeweled crown,
They shine for ever more.
John Luckey McCreery - There Is No Death
June 22
Abraham Lincoln gave the following advice to a young officer who had been court martialed
for quarreling: "...No man resolved to make the most of himself can spare time for
personal contention. Still less can he afford to take all the consequences, including the
vitiating of his temper and the loss of selfcontrol. Yield larger things to which you can
show no more than equal right; and yield lesser ones though clearly your own. Better give
your path to a dog, than be bitten by him in contesting for your right. Even killing the
dog would not cure the bite."
"It is only fools who cherish wrath" (Ecclesiastes 7:9 Moffatt).

Spurgeon's Evening for June 22 |
"He shall build the temple of the Lord; and he shall bear the glory." - -Zechariah 6:13
|
"That those things which cannot be shaken may remain." - Hebrews 12:27 |
Each individual believer is being prepared, and polished, and made ready for his place in the temple; but Christ's own hand performs the preparation-work. Afflictions cannot sanctify, excepting as they are used by him to this end. Our prayers and efforts cannot make us ready for heaven, apart from the hand of Jesus, who fashioneth our hearts aright. |
Whatever your losses have been, or may be, you enjoy present salvation. You are standing at the foot of his cross, trusting alone in the merit of Jesus' precious blood, and no rise or fall of the markets can interfere with your salvation in him; no breaking of banks, no failures and bankruptcies can touch that |

...and by his light I walked through darkness! JOB 29:3 NIV
Submit to Being Deprived by Pat Nordman
|
When our son died I was told by our church lawyer that we had a case for a lawsuit against the college he was attending. He had tried to commit suicide there and they never contacted us. At the time it was the last thing I wanted, for I had sense enough to know that these are not simple things. The cry of the land seems to be, "Sue them!" I've watched with interest the proliferation of all these frivolous lawsuits and always I think, "What does God think of all this nonsense?" I realize there are legitimate reasons for some lawsuits, but this has gotten blasphemous. Years ago there was a story in the paper about a little girl who didn't get her toy in the Cracker Jax box. Her father sued! I thought, what an ideal opportunity for Dad to sit little Princess down and tell her the facts of life: sometimes we don't get our toys! That's life, child! "Why not submit to being deprived of something?" It's a great idea, but in today's aura of rights and things, I rather doubt this would fly. But it would certainly bring some peace to the earth, wouldn't it? Send a note to © Pat Nordman , the writer of this devotion. |
