Moreland, Peggy - RANCHER'S SPITTIN' IMAGE, THE Ms. Moreland has written a heartwarming romance about two wonderful people, Mandy and Jesse, who put unhappy family situations and old heartaches behind them...and find a future together. Although the plot is a well-used one, the story is fast-paced, sexy, and entertaining. The characters are very likable, and I thoroughly enjoyed the humor between the sisters. THE RANCHER'S SPITTIN' IMAGE is the first in a trilogy about the McCloud sisters: Amanda, Samantha, and Merideth, and I am looking forward to reading the other two books. ~Sharon Laird for Bookbug on the Web

Moreland, Peggy - THAT McCLOUD WOMAN The renovation of Alayna's old homestead, Pond House, which she wants to open up as a foster home for unwanted children, has run up against some problems. After she hired a man to do the work, he took her money and left without completing the job, and now she is low on funds and the bank won't grant her any more credit. Jack offers to finish the job after overhearing Alayna tell her friend at the coffee shop about her troubles. He has nowhere to go and nothing to do anyway. The longer Jack is around Alayna the more he is intrigued by her. Why does she wear those baggy clothes? What is she hiding? Alayna is also curious about Jack, and wants to know why he looks so sad and why he is avoiding the little boy and girl she has already taken in. Slowly he lets down his guard, taking Billy under his wing and teaching him carpentry and painting, and generally being a father figure to the little boy. Jack's heart is also touched when Molly sends her teddy bear to comfort him when he's feeling down. THAT McCLOUD WOMAN is a gentle romance, with sensuality that doesn't overwhelm the story. The book focuses on Jack and Alayna, while the children are the catalyst that brings them together. There is no real separation between the main characters, no suspense and not much angst, but I came away from this story feeling uplifted. ~Beth Coogan for Bookbug on the Web

Morgan, Melody - ABIDING HOPE (Leisure - 3/99) (3) Since so many of the improvements involve woodworking, she seeks the help of Nathan Stockwell, a carpenter and wheelwright; but he turns her down because he doesn't have the time to help. The pastor, Ted, and a couple of local church groups become involved in the project; however, a ladies' group stands opposed and tries to reverse the council's ruling, using devious methods. Nathan strolls past the house one evening and notices the poor quality of carpenter work being done by Lydia and Ted, and he can't help becoming involved with the renovations. He agrees to help in the evenings when the lovely lady isn't around. Because of his past, he doesn't want to become involved with another woman, and Lydia makes him antsy. He feels like running as far away from her as he can! But as the two spend time together working on the house, the attraction between them grows. Can Lydia break through his defenses? Will Nathan be able to forget the past and commit himself to a relationship? Melody Morgan follows up ABIDING LOVE with this heartwarming sequel about a spirited woman and a defensive man, who have both lost loved ones in their lives. A secondary romance between a widow and the pastor adds greatly to the story, while the many colorful secondary characters make Peaceful Valley, Ohio a lively little town to visit. Oh, and be sure to read ABIDING HOPE when you aren't hungry. All of the delicious food mentioned in this book will make your mouth water! ~Sharon Laird for Bookbug on the Web

Morgan, Melody - LOVE AND HONOR (Leisure - 1998) (4) Melody Morgan creates a wild and wooly tale taken straight from the annals of the American West. She peoples the town of Lampasas, Texas with believable characters and provides an intriguing backdrop to the love story between Doc Hallie and her dangerous bodyguard, Brodie. I especially liked the way the author developed the relationship between the hero and the heroine. Although there was a spark of chemistry initially, the sensuality and romance unfolded slowly and believably. The author added some interesting twists to a tale often told and the result was a book I thoroughly enjoyed. ~Connie Ramsdell for Bookbug on the Web
