Gina Wilkins - Eileen Wilks - Penelope Williamson

Wilkins, Gina - GETAWAY BRIDE, THE  (Harl. Tempt. 633) (4)
Gabe Conroy was a happily married man of three weeks when he arrived home one day to find his bride was gone. For the next two and a half years he searches for her, putting most of his life on hold. He hires detectives, as he works hard building up his construction company. Then, at last, there is a break when Blake, his most recently hired detective, locates her. Page Conroy is now a mousy, brown-haired girl with brown eyes and glasses, who keeps to herself completely. This is a far cry from the blonde-haired, blue-eyed gorgeous girl he had wed, but it is still her. After many escapes from her husband and the detective, they finally have her at an isolated cabin where they question her. She is hard and cold, telling them nothing other than she wanted to leave him and be left alone. Both Gabe and Blake know she is hiding something. But even when they discover the truth, the problem isn't solved and they all face a deadly enemy.

Some people do not give Harlequin writers serious consideration. This story is as good as any hardback book they'll find anywhere. There isn't a flaw to be found and it is gripping and exciting. Don't pay attention to the cover or the story synopsis on the back. It hardly does it justice!  ~Review provided by Romance Reviews

Wilks, Eileen - MIDNIGHT CINDERELLA  (SIM 921 - 4/99) (4+)
Nathan Jones was an outcast in his Texas hometown, but this closed-off loner couldn't resist Hannah McBride, the nursing assistant he'd hired to take care of his injured younger brother. Nate had learned about love the hard way from his demanding father and his possessive, mentally ill ex-wife, and he isn't interested in going down that road again. But it doesn't take long for Hannah to have a few ideas of her own about love. MIDNIGHT CINDERELLA is an absorbing, well-written romance—a one-sitting read. ~Connie R. (C1rams@aol.com)

Wilks, Eileen - PROPOSITION: MARRIAGE  (SD 1239 - 9/99) (4+)
All Jane Smith wanted was a little adventure—some excitement to add color to a life that had so far been as ordinary and mundane as her name. When she started out that morning to do a bit of vacation sight-seeing in the small Latin American nation of San Tomás, she found much more than she'd bargained for, however. As if the threat of kidnapping by rebel soldiers wasn't enough, her rescue (and seduction) by the enigmatic and seemingly dangerous man she knew only as "John" certainly topped off the adventure! Returning home after this harrowing experience, Jane is determined to put the mystery man out of her mind; but that proves to be very difficult. How can she even begin to forget him when every time the phone rings it's his voice she's hoping to hear on the other end?

John...or Samuel...or whatever he's choosing to call himself these days is yearning for a new life. Burned out after years of living a nomadic, rootless existence that has consistently kept him on the edge of danger, Samuel is struggling to come to grips with strong feelings he's been unable to ignore since his chance encounter with Miss Jane Smith in San Tomás. Although he doesn't understand this sudden craving for "a place to belong," he does know that his quest for all the trappings of an ordinary life is somehow tied in with that pretty and practical lady. But even as he is proposing a marriage of convenience, Samuel is aware that Jane might not be as eager as he to begin a new life together. If their brief but passionate encounter is bearing the fruit he hopes it is, however, Mr. Charmaneaux believes he may have an opportunity to overcome her doubts and finally find that place where he belongs.

In PROPOSITION: MARRIAGE, Eileen Wilks has again combined a strong story line with well-drawn characters to create an engaging story that's hard to put down. Her books—and heroes—just keep getting better and better; and sexy ex-spy Samuel Charmaneaux is certainly no exception. While being as "alpha" as you can get, he hides an almost painfully tender heart beneath his intimidating exterior. Let Eileen Wilks take you on an exciting romantic adventure in PROPOSITION: MARRIAGE. ~Connie Ramsdell for Bookbug on the Web

Williamson, Penelope - OUTSIDER, THE  (Warner - 1997) (4+)
I've really enjoyed Williamson's books since she moved to hardcover, and THE OUTSIDER is definitely my favorite so far. Set in the American West, it features an Amish heroine and an "outsider" hero (a gunslinger). The author's excellent storytelling skills make this a very good read indeed. ~Elena P.

Williamson, Penelope - PASSIONS OF EMMA, THE  (Warner - 1998) (5)
This book takes place in 1890 Rhode Island, where Emma Tremayne lives among the great folk of Bristol society. Betrothed to Geoffrey Alcott, yet not sure she really loves him, she befriends a pregnant Irish immigrant named Bria McKenna, who is dying of consumption. Bria teaches her the true meaning of friendship, and her daughters, Noreen and Merry, come to love Emma as well. After Jacko's birth and knowing her death is imminent, Bria encourages a match between Emma and her husband, Seamus "Shay" McKenna, despite their cultural differences. This heart-wrenching story is not over until the very last page. THE PASSIONS OF EMMA was my first Williamson, but definitely not my last!  ~Anita S. (mysanita@juno.com)

Williamson, Penelope - PASSIONS OF EMMA, THE  (Warner - 1998) (5)
What a wonderful, wonderful story!  Emma is from an affluent family and is about to become engaged to a wealthy man she has known all of her life. But Emma is a free-spirit and a caring one. She learns about atrocities at the mill owned by her soon-to-be fiance's family, visits it and is appalled at all the young children working there. Most are children of Irish immigrants. Emma meets with one of these immigrants, Bria McKenna. This mother of two is not only pregnant, but she is dying of consumption. The two women, seemingly opposites, become fast friends. However, Emma also finds herself attracted to Bria's husband, Shay. The love story between Shay and Bria, who were childhood friends, is a beautiful one; but it becomes Bria's dying wish that Shay eventually take Emma for his wife. Suffice to say this is a real tear-jerker. I can't recommend it enough. ~Maudeen W. (MaudeenW@aol.com)
