Dedicant
A non-initiated student of the Craft; sometimes called a neophyte, seeker, student, or
candidate.
Degrees
Levels of initiation representing spiritual or magickal development as well as skill,
knowledge, and experience.
Deosil
Clockwise, the direction of the Sun's apparent motion in the Sky. In northers hemisphere
magic and religion, deosil movement is symbolic of life, positive energiess, good. It is
much-used in spells and rituals; i.e. "walk deosil around the Circle of Stones." Some
Wiccan groups below the equator, notably in australia, have switched from deosil to
Widdershins movements in their rituals, for the Sun "moves" in an apparent counter-clockwise
motion from this vantage point. See also Widdershins. Some spell it as Diosie.
Divination
The magical art of telling the future and discovering the unknown via the interpretation of
symbols and patterns. Tools often used are Tarot cards, Runes, Scrying bowls, Crystal Balls,
Tea-leaves, etc.
Divine Power
The unmanifested, pure energy that exists within the Goddess and the God. The life force,
the ultimate source of all things.
Dowsing
The art/science of using an object such as a pendulum or stick to find the location of
a person, place or thing. Most often associated with finding underground water.
Drawing down the Moon
A ritual used during Full Moon celebrations, where (normaly) the high-piestess will be
united and empowered by the essence of the Goddess.
Drum
Drums are used by many as a means of raising power during ritual, as well as for
trancework and entertainment.
