Samhain
A Wiccan festival celebrated on October 31st, also known as November Eve, Hallomas,
Halloween, Feast of Souls, Feast of the Dead, Feast of apples. Samhain marks the symoblic
death of the Sun God and His passing into the "land of the young," where He awaits rebirth
of the Mother Goddess at Yule. This Celtic word is pronounced by Wiccans as: SOW-wen;
SEW-wen; SAHM-hain; SAHM-ain; SAV-een and others ways. The first seems to be the one
preferred among most Wiccans.
Scry
A method of divination where one gazes at or into an object to still the Conscious mind and
contact the psychic mind.
Servitor
They are independant thought-forms which carry on activities in the ideosphere/astral
space in the manner in which they are programmed. A servitor can continue existing even
after the death of the mage/witch/magician that spawned it.
Shaman
A person who has obtained knowledge of the subtler dimensions of the Earth, usually through
periods of alternate states of consciousness. Various types of Ritual allow the shaman to
pierce the veil of the physical world and to experience the realm of energies. This
knowledge lends the shaman the power to change her or his world through Magick.
Shamanism
The practice of shamans, usually ritualistic or magical in nature, somtimes religous.
Sigilic Magick
Sigilic magick works as a deep-seated trigger in the magickians subconscious mind, whereas
a servitor becomes an independant entity. Although the mage/witch/magickian may use bits
of his/her emotional centre to spawn the entity (the birthing process).
Sigl
Symbols and/or pictures drawn to represent something. Used to focus on during Magick rituals.
Simple Feast
A Ritual meal shared with the Goddess and God.
Sky Clad
The act of celebrating or doing a magickal working in the nude.
Spell
A magical Ritual, usually non-religous in nature and often accompanied by spoken words.
Spirial
This signifies an inward journey. It represents the emergence into consciousness of what
was previously hidden. It also suggests the round of seasons, where life unfolds and
fades, unfolds again in a repeating cycle - it means life. It is also the symbol of
'coming into being.'
Spirial, Double
The double spiral means descent and return.
Spirits of the Stones, The
The elemental energies natural inherent at the four directions of the Magic Circle,
personified within the Standing Stone Traditions as the "Spirits of the Stones." They are linked
with the Elements.
