Any word or phrase put into * * Is an action.
Any Name put into ((( ))) is a Greeting Hug or just a hug depending on how it is used.
In the Spirit Web, some helpful hints are the following:
If you want to post a private message or PM the procedure is to do the following:
/mesg (name exactly as used) then type your message. This will not post for general consumption, only that person named will see
the message.
Another neat trick is to change the heading of the topic. It follows the same premise of the pm, but this will change the topic and will also post who changed the heading.
/topic (The topic, ie Healing through Meditation or as I prefer Healing through Laughter)
--ENTERING A CHATROOM--
There are usually one of two thing people do in chatrooms.
Either they talk to other people
or they sit and listen to people talk.
When you first come into a new chatroom, stop and listen to
what is being talked about. Get a feel for the type of
conversation that is going on and when you feel confident
enough to be heard say hello. Most chatrooms are usually
friendly enough to where someone will say hi back.
--LEAVING A CHATROOM--
In most cases when you leave a chatroom
it is only proper to let
everyone know you left.
The best way to do this besides telling
everyone is to *poof* out. Poofing is a way
of telling everyone that you have left the
room and will not be receiving any more
messages. It doesn't have to be a *poof*,
some people *Fly away*, *Fade to Black* or *melt into a pool*.
I like to *IMPLODE*.
--THINGS TO REMEMBER IN CHAT--
Be polite,
Even if you don't agree with someone. It is ok to
disagree, but not ok to insult someone. You must
try to remember that these are real people who do have feelings.
Expect the worst,
Because there is almost always someone who will be trying to ruin
a good conversation.
Try not to use bad Language.
Most chatrooms have rules that need to be followed for it to be an enjoyable
experience. Don't ruin it for other people just because you like to swear. A lot of
people find it offensive, and in some
chatplaces you can be
banned forever.
Be Careful!
Never give out your address or phone number
to strangers! There are some
really weird people out there. If you do not know someone,
don't give them personal information about yourself.
Using Caps
When in a chatroom using all capital letters is considered yelling.
Avoid doing this because others may take offence.
A problem I have with chat.
I talk to many people via chatrooms, and every once and
a while someone comes up to me
and asks me if I remember them. Its hard to tell them that I don't.
I talk to maybe 100 or more people a month, and unless you have been talking
to me on a continual basis, I might not remember your name. Some people feel
hurt when you tell them you don't remember them. I guess I can understand
that, especialy if it was a good chat. Now, I may not remember your name,
but I bet I remember the conversation. I am sure this happens to a lot
of people at one point or another. So, if you meet someone in a chatroom and
then do not talk to them for a while, don't expect them to remember you right
away. Sometimes a refresher about what you talked about is needed. So don't be offended
if someone you meet doesn't remember your name, just remind them of what you talked about.
