Algebra is Great!

According to Mathematicians, Algebra is a great tool that has many uses within the fields of Maths. If it's abused, it can prove total impossibilities with the one below being a classic.

Here's the fun bit:

Let x = 1 and y = 1

Then y = x

Now multiply the equasion by x, Thus:

xy = x²

You then subtract y², giving:

xy - y² = x² - y²

Now the hard bit! Factorising the equasion, gives:

y(x - y) = (x + y)(x - y)

Dividing by the common factor, (x - y), gives :

y = x + y

Substituting the original values of x and y, Proves :

1 = 2

I bet you never knew that, but there's the PROOF!

The reason this comes about is that you are actually dividing by 0 which gives infinite answers.
