Rummaging through various Small Business information I've accumulated, I came across this list of sites that may prove useful for existing and new small companies. I haven't needed to check these out for myself but understand they are comprehensive in what they cover

        This site has the latest news for small businesses, a list of fact sheets and profit boosters - amazing ideas to help you make more money.

        Setting up your own business and 'dot com' can cost. So check out the best deals available from these bank sites before you spend. These are the major banks only, and searching with Yahoo! UK should reveal more.(e.g. Bank of Scotland, the Woolwich, the Halifax. etc.)

www.dti.gov.uk
        New businesses often have trouble getting finance from banks. This site, the Department of Trade and Industry, has details of the Small Firms Loan Guarantee Scheme. This is aimed at those with great plans but don't have the assets for a bank loan.

        Stacks of help and advice available here - they're the one-stop shop for both new and existing businesses.

        If you are of the Club 18-30 age, these sites are aimed at you. They will point you in the direction of great ideas and possible sources of financing.

        Tax can be tough. This site tells you all you need to know, including where to get forms and when to send them in.

        This is the site of Her Majesty's Customs and Excise. They are responsible for handling VAT and the site contains the ins and outs of VAT. Whether you register for VAT or not is optional if your turnover is less than £52,000 a year. Above that figure, you MUST register.

        If you rent a premisis for your business, the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors offer advice on unfair rent matters and bad practices by your landlord.

        Clicking this link will take you to the site that gives advice on keeping customer records relative to the Data Protection Act.

        Businesses must not discriminate against people with disabilities. The full story is at this site, guidelines, help etc.

        These sites have details of legal costs insurance. There are other sites so searching via a search engine like Yahoo! UK should find them.

        Here, you can find and download a free A-to-Z guide to firms that are going, or gone, bust.

        Just about the most comprehensive directory and search engine for UK businesses and their status. It also allows searching for new homes, a restaurant, etc.

        Not exactly a business help site, more a help you relax type site. Once you've sorted your business problems, you certainly deserve to relax. The site has very relaxing properties and should brighten your day. Enjoy.
