HTML Special Characters

The following table gives you the codes you need to insert special characters into your HTML documents. Some characters have their own mnemonic names - for example the registered trade mark character, ®, can be written in HTML as ®. Where there is no mnemonic name, you can insert the character simply by including its decimal code, ® for the same character as previous example.

Where it states Not IE or Not Netscape, no versions after IE4.0 and before Netscape 4.77 will display the character correctly if at all, for the respective browser.

I have only shown the characters below &#160 where they are either NOT available from the keyboard, or they are used by HTML as part of its syntax.

Coding example:

Amœba produces Amœba, as too does Amœba, if you're lucky. Œdipus or Œdipus should give Œdipus, as in Rex.

Users of CSE HTML Validator Lite should IGNORE that program when it claims Œ (Œ) and œ (œ) are invalid characters. The program is WRONG!!! Even Netscape recognises them, lol.
