- General cure for sporting 'accidents': Boil up comfrey leaves for a poultice for many sports injuries. Can't beat it! Confrey stimulates growth of connective tissue. Also called knitbone, it is very useful for toe and other bone fractures.
- From personal experience, the 'magic sponge' worked wonders for knocks to the body and head. Unfortunately this has now been banned, but a spray of cold water down the spine and on the knock has almost the same effect.
- Professional trainers (physios) tend to use painkilling or steroid sprays for many injuries to help speed up recovery. Beware though as killing the pain can cause even greater injury if the player continues the game.
- Swallowing the tongue is a physical impossibility, as the front of the tongue is fixed to the base of the mouth and prevents that. This symptom is purely a swelling of the tongue, as a result of shock, that blocks the upper windpipe. Often getting the person to sit upright and a good slap on the back clears it.
- Hamstring pulls are normally caused through lack of fitness or incorrect/insufficient 'warming up'. If the person follows the rules and warms up correctly and is fit, pulled hamstrings should rarely occur.
- Many injuries are caused by lack of concentration in training or even the game. These can be things like ankle strains and groin strains. Lack of fitness again plays a part. These injuries are often dealt with by application of cold water or a heat or freeze spray. If the strain is more serious, time is the only healer.
- Not an injury this time. Weight is increased if you eat the wrong diet and weight increases slow you down. Adjust your diet so that it is well balanced and contains the necessary blend of vitamins and minerals.
With this topic, I'll be adding further information as I find it. That is unless you know of a few things and care to e-mail me them and I can add them here.
