PRINCIPAL ISLANDS |

|
An island is a mass of land smaller than a continent which is entirely surrounded by water. Therefore Australia even with an area of 7,682,300 km² (2,966,140 miles²), which is generally regarded as a continent, does not qualify. But Britain consisting of England, Scotland and Wales does. Indeed, with an area of 229,870 km² (88,730 miles²), it is the largest island in Europe. |
