- Get to know yourself and understand what you really want. Respect yourself and others. If you do this, you have a right to expect others to respect you too.
- Spend time carefully - remembering that it is the most valuable commodity any of us has. The things which matter most to you should not be at the mercy of things which matter not at all.
- Give yourself short, medium and long-term targets. Decide where you want to go in life. Without a map there is a risk that you will wander round aimlessly. You cannot begin to live until you have found something for which you would die.
- Every day you have to say No to something, so make sure you say No to the unimportant things. Remember that every choice involves a cost.
- Stand up for those who are weaker or more vulnerable than you. Bullying and cruelty are abhorrent.
- Be aware that the way you see the problem IS the problem. What matters is not so much what we experience as how we respond to our experiences.
- Never stop learning. Strive constantly to improve the skills you have and to acquire new skills.
- Concentrate your efforts on those areas where you can have influence. And gradually try to expand the extent of your influence.
- Learn to understand other people's needs and fears. When you listen to someone, try to understand things from their point of view.
- Allow your conscience to speak to you. And learn to listen. Never compromise your principles. Your principles are what you are. They define you. Focus on your principles and let them run your life.
