Tips for Great Kips
It makes me laugh that seemingly because famous people, mainly politicians, doze off during debates/speeches that the media and some doctors have come up with a catchphrase for it. I call it boredom induced tiredness but it seems it should now be called 'Power-napping'

For the perfect 'power-nap' use these handy hints from Professor Chris Idzikowski, chairman of the Royal Society of Medcine's Sleep Forum.

  • Power-naps should be kept short to prevent you feeling too groggy when you wake up.

  • The exact amount of time spent napping will depend on the individual, but most people will find that 15 - 20 minutes is enough.

  • Ideally, don't do anything important for 20 minutes after waking to prevent 'sleep inertia' (poor performance after sleep).

  • Drinking coffee before a 20-minute nap may actually help. It takes the coffee that long to work through to the bloodstream and you should wake up feeling alert.

  • If at first you find it hard to nap, don't worry. The most important thing is relaxing and being quiet.

  • Don't nap if you have problems sleeping at night. But if you need to take afternoon naps to compensate, try changing your bedtime habits and have more early nights.

  • If there's nowhere at work to sleep, use your car. Some people have even snoozed in toilet cubicles.
