FLORA CHAN (FLORA CHAN) (CINEPOLY)
(JUN00)
|
TVB actress Flora Chan (or
Chen Hui Shan) has released her debut album. The
album contains two duets, one sung with William So (or Su Yong
Kang) and the other with Eddie Ng (or Wu Guo Jing). In
particular, the duet song with Eddie Ng is a cover of his own
composition "Care Too Much" (or Dui Ni Tai Zai Hu)
originally sung by Kelly Chan (or Chen Hui Lin).

KELLY CHAN (PAISLEY GALAXY)
(GO EAST ENTERTAINMENT) (MAY00)
|
Kelly Chan's (or Chen Hui Lin)
album seems to be getter bigger and bigger. Following her
recent magazine-size Mandarin release "Love
You So Much", this new Cantonese offering tops it up by
coming in the LD-size package. Even the lyrics booklet is
larger than normal, making it quite a hassle for someone to
read. Half of the
tracks here (five to be exact) are produced by Mark Lui (or Lei
Song De). Other producers include Gary Chan, song-writer
cum singer Eddie Ng (or Wu Guo Jing) and Jim Lee. The
first single is the title track "Paisley Galaxy" which
is an infectious techno dance number composed by Mark Lui and
written by Lin Xi. There is also a bonus Mandarin version
of this same song titled "Why Don't We Dance". With
its bulky size package, it's no wonder that the album comes
bundled with a giant-size poster of Kelly Chan, which should
make her fans so very happy. But personally, I hope her
future albums will shrink back to the normal size so that I'll
not lose sleep over where to store her CDs.

ANITA MUI (I'M SO HAPPY)
(CAPITAL ARTISTS) (MAY00)
|
A couple of set-backs have
happened before this latest offering by Anita Mui (or Mei Yan
Fang) was released. First up, her elder sister died of
cancer a few months back. Then, the naked drawing of a
woman on the singlet she's wearing on the album cover, has led
to the banning of her advertising posters to be put up in
certain public places in Hong Kong. Lastly, her album was
originally titled "Mui Mui" but a restraining order
from the court filed by a fashion brand called "Miu Miu"
led to the record company having to fork up additional pocket
money to manufacture sticker tags to cover the old title.
The new album title is ironically called "I'm So
Happy" which is also the name of her first single which is
composed by Lin Jian Hua and written by Huang Wei Wen. Another
note-worthy mention is that this album is reportedly her last
collaboration with Capital Artists which has been her record
company in her entire music career since the early eighties. The
album is produced by Wang Shuang Jun and Calvin Choy (or Cai Yi
Zhi, who's one of the members of Anita's protege group The
Grasshoppers). A
ballad duet called "Let's Cry" is included here.
It is sung together with Eason Chan (or Chen Yi Xun) who also
composed the track. The lyrics are written by Lin Xi. The
limited-edition album package comes with a short-story booklet
(which contains photos shot by Calvin Choy and a story line
written by author Ocean Chan or Chen Hai Qi) and a tester set of
skin products.

KWONG WA (WITHOUT YOU) (PONY
CANYON) (APR00)
|
TVB actor Kwong Wa (or Jiang
Hua) has released his debut EP offering. Containing
a total of five tracks, it includes the first single cum title
track ballad "Without You" and two Mandarin
tracks. The song writers and album producer are all
unfamiliar names to me. The
EP comes with a bonus VCD which contains the music video (plus
karaoke MTV) for "Without You".
