Some Foundations Test Help

An AOL IM conversation Mon Oct 2, 2006

ASDFG65432: heyy mr.mitchel
eescilsm: hi there
ASDFG65432: are we still having the test tommorow cuz i heard other classes tests got moved to wed.
eescilsm: only the classes that were scheduled for today got moved
ASDFG65432: oh...
eescilsm: per 4,6,7 still have the test tomorrow
eescilsm: per 1,5 don't meet tomorrow
ASDFG65432: oh...so is the test going to be multiple choice or is it going to have essay questions
ASDFG65432: ium period 6
eescilsm: yes
eescilsm: both
ASDFG65432: so there is essay questions
ASDFG65432: oh gotchaa
eescilsm: there are a several essays to choose two from
ASDFG65432: oh thats good
ASDFG65432: lol this is so weird talking to my science teacher on aim...
eescilsm: know what's wierder?
ASDFG65432: lol wat
eescilsm: talking to my science STUDENT on aim...
ASDFG65432: hahahaha
eescilsm: any questions?
ASDFG65432: nope thats it thank you
ASDFG65432: oh i forgot to tell you my name
eescilsm: ok
ASDFG65432: yeauh but you still dont know my name in class...
eescilsm: should i?
ASDFG65432: lol not really
ASDFG65432: alrighttee bye mr.mritchle
ASDFG65432: mitchle*
ASDFG65432: i dont knwo how to spell ur name..
eescilsm: see you tomorrow - whoever you are
ASDFG65432: lol aaaaaa aaaaaa
eescilsm: hi aaaaaaa!
ASDFG65432: lol hi mr.mitchlle!
eescilsm: i'll be here for a little while yet if you have questions
ASDFG65432: alrightee i willl go check over the review thingy to see if i forogt a question
ASDFG65432: i think i got rid of all the eeks but i might have missed one
eescilsm: ok
ASDFG65432: oh wait um another person has a ques but they are to afraid to ask you lol
ASDFG65432: so i will ask
eescilsm: why are they afraid?
ASDFG65432: i have no cluee
ASDFG65432: lol
ASDFG65432: sssssssssss sssssssss
eescilsm: hi sssssssss!
ASDFG65432: im aaaaaaa
ASDFG65432: lol
ASDFG65432: um she wants to know describe how the density of earth materials relate to each other and the density of water
eescilsm: what is the density of water?
ASDFG65432: i guess so ....she just typed the quesiton you had on the reveiw thing
eescilsm: i mean - does she know the density of water?
ASDFG65432: i dont think so
eescilsm: how did we define the gram?
ASDFG65432: hmm....ahh...
ASDFG65432: i dont know..lol
eescilsm: got notes?
ASDFG65432: i have it in my notes...
ASDFG65432: mass of a cm3 of water
ASDFG65432: OHH
ASDFG65432: got itt
ASDFG65432: i think....
eescilsm: so the density of water is _______ g/cc ?
ASDFG65432: umm....doesnt it depend on how much water there is?
eescilsm: one cubic centimeter
eescilsm: remember density is an average
ASDFG65432: oh yeauh
ASDFG65432: so the density of awter is one cubic cm?
eescilsm: density is grams per cubic centimeter = g/cc
ASDFG65432: mhmm
eescilsm: how many grams of mass is there in a cc of water?
ASDFG65432: 1 cc
ASDFG65432: ?
ASDFG65432: 1 gram
eescilsm: YES
ASDFG65432: lol i got it! yay
ASDFG65432: but sssssssss signed off..
eescilsm: so what is the density of water?
ASDFG65432: watever the cc is?
eescilsm: aarrgh
ASDFG65432: lolol
ASDFG65432: maybe not
eescilsm: how many grams of mass are in one cc of water?
ASDFG65432: 1 gram=1 cc
ASDFG65432: right
eescilsm: right - 1 g/cc
eescilsm: so if a rock has a density of 5 g/cc, how does its density compare to water?
ASDFG65432: its the same?
eescilsm: eeeek!
ASDFG65432: hahaha
eescilsm: rock=5 g/cc, water=1g/cc
ASDFG65432: OHH water is 1g/cc? got it so it is 5 times denser then water!
ASDFG65432: yay
eescilsm: YES!
eescilsm: YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!Y ES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YE S!YES!YES!YES!
eescilsm: YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!Y ES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!
ASDFG65432: woow i got itt
ASDFG65432: this is easyy
ASDFG65432: give me another oe
eescilsm: what about wood?
ASDFG65432: one just so i kno i got it
ASDFG65432: wood? okay
ASDFG65432: wat does wood equal
eescilsm: hold on a sec
ASDFG65432: kk
eescilsm: in the density h/o at http://www.oocities.org/CapeCanaveral/7639/foundtns/density.htm
eescilsm: A block of wood measures 10 cm by 5 cm by 3 cm. It has a mass of 100 g. Its density is:

ASDFG65432: ahh...well when you put it like that...hmmm
ASDFG65432: lets see so you would multiply 10 times 5 times 3 which is 1500
eescilsm: try that again
ASDFG65432: okay...hmm
ASDFG65432: 100 g/cc?
eescilsm: ?
eescilsm: its mass is 100g, what is its volume?
ASDFG65432: 10 x 5 x 3
eescilsm: yes - and that is?
ASDFG65432: 150
eescilsm: right - so its density is?
ASDFG65432: 150 times 100?
eescilsm: density is mass/volume
eescilsm: memorize that!
ASDFG65432: oh
ASDFG65432: ok got it
eescilsm: so it density is?
ASDFG65432: .666
eescilsm: YES!
ASDFG65432: oh this is easy
eescilsm: YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!
eescilsm: why does wood float?
ASDFG65432: because it has air in it and its not dense
eescilsm: sort of - how does its density compare to water?
ASDFG65432: its a littel over half
ASDFG65432: right
eescilsm: and why does a rock sink?
ASDFG65432: its really dense
eescilsm: denser than?
ASDFG65432: 5 times denser
eescilsm: th
eescilsm: than?
ASDFG65432: water
ASDFG65432: OHH I GET IT
ASDFG65432: its sinks in water cuz it is denser then water and wood floats because its not denser then water...so what happens if there is somehitng with the same denseness
eescilsm: it stays where you put it in the water
ASDFG65432: oh thats cool
eescilsm: a submarine cruising along at an even depth has an average density of....
ASDFG65432: 1 g/cc
ASDFG65432: right?
eescilsm: YES!
ASDFG65432: yayyy
ASDFG65432: lol *dancing around the room*
eescilsm: what is the density of a huge, gigantic aircraft carrier?
ASDFG65432: ummm really low like .00002
ASDFG65432: well not that low but
ASDFG65432: has to be a lot lower then water because it is heavy
eescilsm: it only has to be less than 1 g/cc or so to float
ASDFG65432: yeauh
ASDFG65432: i think i understand....but im tryng to explain this to ssssssssssss
ASDFG65432: its hard to explain
eescilsm: tell me about it
ASDFG65432: ASDFG65432: ok so grams=cubic centimeters
ASDFG65432: ok so water is 1g/cc
ASDFG65432: thats how dense water is
ASDFG65432: ASDFG65432: 1/gcc
eescilsm: about that
ASDFG65432: ASDFG65432: ok so if a rock is 5 g/cc how much more denser is it then water
ASDFG65432: mmhmm
ASDFG65432: thank you mr.mirchell
ASDFG65432: mitchell wow i think i spelt it right
eescilsm: you're welcome
ASDFG65432: lol i think i would have faioled..
eescilsm: faioled?
ASDFG65432: lol failed
ASDFG65432: typo
eescilsm: see you tomorrow
ASDFG65432: byee
ASDFG65432: thakn you
eescilsm: anytime

AOL IM conversations Tuesday evening 9/23/03

Mlkjhgfddsa: hey
eescilsm: hi there
Mlkjhgfddsa: hi Mr Michell
Mlkjhgfddsa: is alot of the test bubble questions?
eescilsm: about 20 - 30 questions
Mlkjhgfddsa: this is ------- from class and im having trouble
Mlkjhgfddsa: i feel like i dont know what im doing
eescilsm: so where do we start?
Mlkjhgfddsa: how you find out density and to find out mass
Mlkjhgfddsa: i get them mixed up
Mlkjhgfddsa: is varibles going to be on the test?
eescilsm: mass is what something measures on a scale
eescilsm: density is what one individual cubic centimeter would have for mass
Mlkjhgfddsa: confusing
Mlkjhgfddsa: ill study more
eescilsm: what do you weigh?
Mlkjhgfddsa: 100
Mlkjhgfddsa: im tiny
eescilsm: that is your mass (sort of)
eescilsm: your density is what one cc of you "weighs"
eescilsm: and that is about the same for everyone
Mlkjhgfddsa: is the test about everything..is there more about one section then others?
Mlkjhgfddsa: ok im strting to get it
Mlkjhgfddsa: i have to go
Mlkjhgfddsa: bye
eescilsm: bye - i hope this helped
Mlkjhgfddsa: yes it did..thank you

Sdfghjkkl: hey mr. Mitchell its ------ i have a question?
eescilsm: hi there
Sdfghjkkl: hi
Sdfghjkkl: when u say to explain control of variables and sources of error in a expirament what do u mean?
eescilsm: making sure the only thing that can affect the outcome of your experiment is what you are testing
Sdfghjkkl: so that means the independant variable should be the only thing that effects the expiriment?
eescilsm: yes, because if there is more than one variable, you can't be sure which one caused that result
Sdfghjkkl: thank you :-D
eescilsm: you're welcome
Sdfghjkkl: What does it mean when we have to explain how SI prefixes indicate the size of SI units
eescilsm: kilo means 1000, centi means 1/100
Sdfghjkkl: oh ok

tyuioplkjh: hey mr. m...about how many questions are there on the test 2morow?
eescilsm: 20 - 30 or so multiple choice, 3-5 essays
tyuioplkjh: o ok...will it be hard?
eescilsm: not if you know everything
tyuioplkjh: i c
tyuioplkjh: will there be measurements?
tyuioplkjh: like converting?
eescilsm: probably
tyuioplkjh: ok thankx
eescilsm: you're welcome

nytrewqa: hello the earth roatats
eescilsm: who is this?
nytrewqa: and revolves
nytrewqa: did we have ne hw
nytrewqa: hello?
eescilsm: can i help you with something?
nytrewqa: what is the degrees for absoulut zero?? -460 degrees F ??
eescilsm: i'd have to look that up, but its got to be around that
nytrewqa: your a science teacher you should no it...i no it and im in 6th grade
eescilsm: so you're not one of my students now?
nytrewqa: no
nytrewqa: but im really good in science
eescilsm: how did you get my im?
nytrewqa: u mean sn??
nytrewqa: im in bio
nytrewqa: right now
eescilsm: ok, how did you get my screen name?
eescilsm: not that i don't want to help, i'm just curious
nytrewqa: my friends cusins sister errr something like that
nytrewqa: no arnt u impressed in my science skills tho
nytrewqa: do u no what an ecotone is?
nytrewqa: if not ill tell you
eescilsm: i have a pretty good idea
nytrewqa: it is the boarder area between any two echo systems
nytrewqa: do u no what the edge effect is?
eescilsm: is this helping you study for a test?
nytrewqa: yes i want u to help me and see if im right
eescilsm: ok, i'll try
nytrewqa: ecology is the study of the relation ship of living things in their enviroment right??
nytrewqa: your a science teacher you should no this
eescilsm: sounds right
nytrewqa: ok..
nytrewqa: geograhical succesion is a change in place and ecological change is based on time
nytrewqa: a habitat is where something lives
nytrewqa: and a niche is what something does in its habitat
nytrewqa: right??
eescilsm: the word niche also describes how it relates to the other organisms in its habitat and its physical environment
nytrewqa: ok
nytrewqa: chemistry is the study of matter and physics is the study of forces
eescilsm: basically
nytrewqa: energy is actually light and every green plant has gluecose
eescilsm: energy is the ability to do work
nytrewqa: Deffusion is the movemnet of molecules from an area of high constertration to an area of low consentration to set up all dynamic equilibrium
nytrewqa: right??
eescilsm: diffusion may not always lead to equilibrium
nytrewqa: oh :-\
nytrewqa: what is osmosis?
eescilsm: diffusion of water
nytrewqa: defusion threw a semi permiable membrane??
eescilsm: a membrane that lets some stuff through but not all
nytrewqa: thank you
nytrewqa: do you think im goood at science for being in 6th grader
eescilsm: you know a lot of definitions, i hope you can use them also
nytrewqa: ya i no i try
nytrewqa: i have an A+ in that class im really happy
eescilsm: good for you
eescilsm: who is your teacher?
nytrewqa: mr -------
nytrewqa: and im in BIO for 6th grade
eescilsm: at --------?
nytrewqa: no
eescilsm: what school?
nytrewqa: i gotta go
nytrewqa: thanks for your help
nytrewqa: i appreciate it
eescilsm: i hope it helped
nytrewqa: i wish i had u as a teacher
nytrewqa: it did
nytrewqa: a lot
nytrewqa: thank you so much
eescilsm: i wish my students said that
eescilsm: you're welcome
nytrewqa: y?
nytrewqa: you seem nice
nytrewqa: going on line to help your students out
eescilsm: its fun
eescilsm: if you check out my web site later, i'll have this conversation there
nytrewqa: what is the site
nytrewqa: i would be glad to check it
nytrewqa: y are u putting it on there??
eescilsm: in case someone else has similar questions
nytrewqa: oh gotcha
nytrewqa: what is the link
eescilsm: i'm working with about 8 of my students right now
nytrewqa: quick can u send me the link cuase i need to go
nytrewqa: and would like to check it out
nytrewqa: even if its not up there yet
eescilsm: http://www.oocities.org/CapeCanaveral/7639/INDEX.HTM
nytrewqa: alright thanks your a fabulous teacher
nytrewqa: i wish i had u
nytrewqa: bye
nytrewqa: thanks for the help
eescilsm: bye

Nqwertyuiop: Mr. Mitchell.....this is ------
eescilsm: hi
Nqwertyuiop: i need help! I am studying right now...and i dont know how to convert Farenheit into Celcius
Nqwertyuiop: because i wasnt there that day that you taught it
eescilsm: subtract 32, then divide by 1.8
Nqwertyuiop: OH! okay thank you!
eescilsm: you're welcome

kjhgfdsa: yo dawg wutsupppppp?? wuts density man?
eescilsm: whats a density man?
kjhgfdsa: yea
eescilsm: a man who specializes in density?
kjhgfdsa: sounds good to me.
eescilsm: what are you asking?
kjhgfdsa: whaaaaaaaat is density?
eescilsm: what does it say on your handout?
kjhgfdsa: idk i dont have it w/me
eescilsm: http://www.oocities.org/CapeCanaveral/7639/foundtns/density.htm
kjhgfdsa: huh
kjhgfdsa: and that is.........??
eescilsm: that the handout - it has the definitions and the formula
kjhgfdsa: greaaaaaaat..
kjhgfdsa: :-\im bored.
eescilsm: oh well
kjhgfdsa: :-(..fine.
kjhgfdsa: is there a lot of ppl talking 2 u?
eescilsm: about 7 or 8 - i'm not too good at keeping up
kjhgfdsa: do you kno who they are?
kjhgfdsa: i see that.
eescilsm: a couple introduced themselves
kjhgfdsa: who?
eescilsm: i can't say - student privacy laws
kjhgfdsa: lol...riiiight.
kjhgfdsa: mmmmmk
kjhgfdsa: do you add ppl to ur buddy list?
eescilsm: no, it would get way too busy
kjhgfdsa: you need to learn how to use computer lingo. its much faster then typin' out the whole word.
kjhgfdsa: :-\
eescilsm: yes, but it furthers the degradation of the language
kjhgfdsa: sure. whatever that meant.
kjhgfdsa: have you figured out wut everything meant yet?
eescilsm: my favorite is lol
kjhgfdsa: haha. why
eescilsm: its better than col
eescilsm: "cry out loud"

Bvcxzasd: Mr Mitchell
eescilsm: hi there
Bvcxzasd: do we need to know the essential questions
eescilsm: you need to be able to answer them in connection with the section materials
Bvcxzasd: alright
Bvcxzasd: thank you
eescilsm: you're welcome

eescilsm: anything else i can help with?
Bvcxzasd: umm
Bvcxzasd: the metric system
Bvcxzasd: how do i really explain that? just how everything relates to another unit and the decimal place is moved over (kilo, hecto, deka, units, deci, centi, milli)
eescilsm: hey - check out what happens on my web page when you double-click on lol
Bvcxzasd: i was confued about that
eescilsm: yes - thats is one way they relate, but also the way length is used to come up with a way of measuring area and volume, solid volume is used to "invent" a standard for liquid volume, a standard volume of water is used to measure mass, etc
Bvcxzasd: ok
Bvcxzasd: i think i have most of it down
Bvcxzasd: thanks for the help:-D
eescilsm: good
eescilsm: anytime
eescilsm: well, not ANYtime, but whenever i can
Bvcxzasd: haha
eescilsm: did you try the dictionary pop-up?
Bvcxzasd: still cracking jokes at10:30 at night
Bvcxzasd: um no hold on lemme try that
Bvcxzasd: where is that
eescilsm: go to most web pages on our site and double click any non-link word
eescilsm: like http://www.oocities.org/CapeCanaveral/7639/foundtns/fdtsthlp.htm and double-click on "density"

From 1999-2002:

Using AOL Instant Messenger:

eescilsm: did you find what you needed?
Dfghjklpiuyt: kind of I understand now
eescilsm: can i help?
Dfghjklpiuyt: no I got it
eescilsm: by the way, who is this?
Dfghjklpiuyt: ...............................
eescilsm: hi! anything else?
Dfghjklpiuyt: I am looking
Dfghjklpiuyt: are we going to have to do a lab or anything with measuring?
eescilsm: only questions about measurement
Dfghjklpiuyt: ok
Dfghjklpiuyt: is there a lot of math work?
Dfghjklpiuyt: with volume and stuff?
eescilsm: not really, some of the optional essays have some math
Dfghjklpiuyt: ok
eescilsm: yes you do have to calculate some volumes, density, etc but not a lot of questions
Dfghjklpiuyt: ok
Dfghjklpiuyt: is the scientific method is the 8 different steps right?
eescilsm: right
Dfghjklpiuyt: for define a laboratory as a situation in which all variables can be controlled for the purpose of a experimentaton what is that asking?
eescilsm: you should know that a lab is anywhere you can do a controlled experiment
Dfghjklpiuyt: ok
Dfghjklpiuyt: is there a lot of questions on Temperature?
eescilsm: maybe one or two
Dfghjklpiuyt: ok
Dfghjklpiuyt: I have to go
Dfghjklpiuyt: bye
eescilsm: ok - i hope this helped
Dfghjklpiuyt: it did
eescilsm: good - see you tomorrow
eescilsm: bye

Sertyuiop: Hey Mr. Mitchell, It's ................ I just wanted to say thanxs for helping me on my questions
eescilsm: you're welcome
eescilsm: you may want to check out http://www.oocities.org/CapeCanaveral/7639/foundtns/fdtsthlp.htm
Sertyuiop: k
eescilsm: did you find your email?
Sertyuiop: yup
Sertyuiop: !!!!
Sertyuiop: :0
eescilsm: what is that?
Sertyuiop: :-)
eescilsm: ok
Sertyuiop: did you mean the smiley face???
eescilsm: it looked like a frown - do you mind having your email on the web site?
Sertyuiop: no I don't care actually it's kinda cool!!
eescilsm: thats good - check it again in one minute
eescilsm: try it now - be sure to refresh/reload
eescilsm: ummm - wait a min
Sertyuiop: k
eescilsm: i'm trying to upload what you just wrote
Sertyuiop: k
eescilsm: oops
Sertyuiop: can't get it???
eescilsm: its there, i had to change something quick
eescilsm: try it now
Sertyuiop: k
eescilsm: anything else you need help with?
Sertyuiop: ummm....
eescilsm: if not, i'm going to get offline for a while
Sertyuiop: what did describe how the density of earth materials relate to each other and the density of water mean?? like, describe how the earth materials and the water are related in density
eescilsm: density >1 g/cc means heavier than water
eescilsm: 4 g/cc material has twice as much matter as 2 g/cc

gfdsaq: hey mr. mitchell
eescilsm: hi there
gfdsaq: are we goin 2 have 2 make experiments on the test 2morrow?
gfdsaq: like you give us a hypothesis and we write the experiment?
eescilsm: you have to write about them, or answer m/c about them
gfdsaq: o ok
gfdsaq: thanx
eescilsm: sure
gfdsaq: and how much is this worth towards our marking period grade?
eescilsm: which class are you in? who is this?
gfdsaq: im in honors
gfdsaq: its .................
eescilsm: the test is .5 of your interim grade
gfdsaq: uh oh
eescilsm: so it will end up .25 of your mp grade
gfdsaq: ok
eescilsm: so it will be .05 of your course grade
gfdsaq: yah aight thanx
eescilsm: anything else?
gfdsaq: nah
gfdsaq: not now
gfdsaq: thanx
eescilsm: ok, bye
gfdsaq: latA

cfrtyuiew: hey mr. mitchell its ............ , mind if i ask u a question?
eescilsm: go ahead
cfrtyuiew: how many steps are in the scientific method?
eescilsm: the way we went through them, 8
cfrtyuiew: k thats like the ID the problem, research, hypothesis, test, conclusion and stuff?
eescilsm: yep
cfrtyuiew: k thanks c ya tomorrow
eescilsm: bye

cvbnm: hello
eescilsm: hi
cvbnm: is this Mr. Mitchell
eescilsm: it sure is - who is this?
cvbnm: this is Cvbnm Lkjhgf
eescilsm: hi - more questions? i hope not still about liters and cc's
cvbnm: no I think i get it
cvbnm: you take 1.0 grams
eescilsm: all right!
eescilsm: i take 1.0 grams..
cvbnm: and change it to kilograms you have .0001km
cvbnm: is that right
eescilsm: km stands for kilometers
cvbnm: kg**
eescilsm: too many decimals
eescilsm: move it 3 places
cvbnm: right you have deka and hecto
cvbnm: and then you get to kilo
cvbnm: .001
eescilsm: yep
cvbnm: ok and centi and milli you move the decimal to the right if you were starting @ 1.0 for cm you would have 100 cm
eescilsm: say again?
cvbnm: again @ 1.0 grams and cm would = 100cm
eescilsm: grams and cm measure different things
cvbnm: oh man
cvbnm: oh I mean 1.0 meters =100 cm
eescilsm: 1 gram = 100 centigrams = 1000 milligrams
cvbnm: right
cvbnm: EASY
eescilsm: = .001 kilograms
cvbnm: right
cvbnm: i get it
eescilsm: 1 kilometer = _____ meters?
cvbnm: 100 meters
eescilsm: 100?
cvbnm: 1000??
eescilsm: yep
cvbnm: so you move it 3 places
cvbnm: ok
eescilsm: yep - three zeros, three places
cvbnm: ok
cvbnm: 3 grams=300centigrams
eescilsm: you may want to check out http://www.oocities.org/CapeCanaveral/7639/foundtn s/fdtsthlp.htm
eescilsm: right
cvbnm: ok
cvbnm: good
cvbnm: ok i don't get the cubic cm
eescilsm: what don't you get?
cvbnm: does a cubic cm=1ml
eescilsm: yes, they are the same volume
eescilsm: by the way, i just added this conversation to the web site
cvbnm: oh great
eescilsm: i always change names, emails and im screen names
cvbnm: do we need to know that exact poplulation of the world and us
eescilsm: within a hundred million for the world
cvbnm: ok like 6billion that is what i put for the lab
eescilsm: 6.? billion
cvbnm: oh 6,170,664,614
cvbnm: i need to know that
eescilsm: yep
cvbnm: oh
cvbnm: and for the world
eescilsm: ?
cvbnm: i need to know the pop. for the us too
eescilsm: sure - why not?
cvbnm: oh great
cvbnm: examples of nonrenewable
eescilsm: :-)
eescilsm: what are you asking?
cvbnm: do I need examples of nonrenewable resources
eescilsm: sure
cvbnm: ok
cvbnm: ok
cvbnm: ok thanks see ya tomorrow

Exactly

drop something in a graduated cylinder - how much does
the water go up?

that is a good outline for an experiment, but that
particular objective relates to science providing good
knowlege to use as the inventory step in the
management cycle

If the mass of my ring is 3.5 grams, if its volume is
0.5 cubic centimeters, what is its density?

volume is how big something is, density is how much
mass (meaning how much matter) is in one average cubic
centimeter of that thing

Using AOL Instant Messenger:

sdfghjklzxcv: mr. mitchell?
eescilsm: hi there
sdfghjklzxcv: what do you mean when you say, explain the relationship between rectangular solid and fluid volumes in SI?
eescilsm: 1000 cubic centimeters of fluid is one liter
eescilsm: so one cubic centimeter of fluid is ____ ml?
sdfghjklzxcv: 1/1000?
eescilsm: hello?
sdfghjklzxcv: ?
sdfghjklzxcv: 1/1000?
eescilsm: no, one ml is 1/1000 of a liter
sdfghjklzxcv: oh
eescilsm: so 1 ml is _________ cubic centimeters?
sdfghjklzxcv: i dont know..i dont get it
eescilsm: if a liter is 1000 cubic centimeters, and 1 milliliter is 1/1000 of a liter, then 1 ml is 1/1000 of 1000 cubic centimeters, which is ....
eescilsm: 1 cubic centimeter is exactly the same thing as 1 milliliter
sdfghjklzxcv: o
sdfghjklzxcv: but what does the question want me to do?
eescilsm: liters are for measuring fluids (liquids and gases), cubic centimeters measure any volume - solid or fluid
sdfghjklzxcv: ok...thank you bye
eescilsm: the objective says you should be able to explain that the volume of a fluid can be measured with either liters or cubic centimeters
eescilsm: by the way, who is this?
sdfghjklzxcv: lkjhgf
sdfghjklzxcv: 4th period
eescilsm: hi lkjhgf!
eescilsm: anything else?
sdfghjklzxcv: no thanks...thanks for your help
eescilsm: ok, bye

for example, we compared the volume of a bunch of pennies
to a volume called cubic centimeters.

"how many cubes one cm on each side would it take to make something
the same size as something"

and liquid volume section - same as above, but we call the cubes of liquid
by the different name milliliters
