Water Systems Intro

To start our study of water systems  in the Land Processes and Products Section of the course, you are going to first swim through a bit of the water cycle, get a splash of  your learning objectives for groundwater, then dive into the factors that affect infiltration at the land's surface.

1. Follow the links on The Hydrologic Cycle page at the "WW2010" site: http://ww2010.atmos.uiuc.edu/(Gh)/guides/mtr/hyd/home.rxml. These are a series of tutorials or lessons on various phases of the water cycle. Some include animations and time lapse photography. You will be able to read through some of these fairly fast since they are a review of what you learned in the atmosphere section of this course.

2. When you finish the 9 tutorials, take the online quiz at: http://members.aol.com/rhaberlin/hcquiz2.htm from the Peralta Community College District.

3. Skim your Groundwater Learning Objectives. These are what you will need to know in this part of the class.

4. Read the article "Infiltration" from the USGS Water Science Basics site: http://ga.water.usgs.gov/edu/watercycleinfiltration.html. As you read, note in the margin of your printed copy the number of any GW Objectives that the article describes.

Homework:

1. Finish this activity, and.....

2. In your textbook, Read p210-214, 230-231,  Do p221 #4, p231 #4 in your notebook or on this page.

3. Homework: Find out: (1) how deep your well is, (2) what kind of pump you have, (3) type of well, and (4) when was your last water test?
