Personal Comment: You need to take the derivative...

Prom Profit Enigma

What we know: A school holds a prom and they want to know how many people need to be there to maximize their profits. -6 times the square of the number of people plus 1200 times the number of people minus 7997 equals the profit. What number of people will the profit be the highest. The number of people includes all people who go to the prom but get white paint on them and their date leaves them outside by themselves.

Enigma: What number of people will the profit be the highest? Hint: Try making an equation...

Solution: You make the equation:
6x2 - 1200x + 5000
Then take the derivative and set it equal to zero.

12x - 1200 = 0
12x = 1200
x = 100
