Dan's Hole Enigma
What we know: Dan has dug himself a hole. Melissa saw him and asked him how deep it was. He responded, "Guess. My height is exactly 5 feet & 10 inches." Melissa then asked, "How much deeper are you going?" Dan replied "I am going twice as deep, and then my head will be twice as far below ground as it is now above ground." Melissa called him a moron and walked away. Eric stepped in the scene and said, "No.... I am the moron." Dan & Melissa both apologized, "Sorry!!!"
Enigma: How deep will the hole be when it is finished?
Solution: At present the hole is 3 feet, 6 inches deep &
Dan is 2 feet, 4 inches above ground.
When the hole is complete, it will be 10 feet, 6 inches deep & Dan will be 4 feet, 8 inches above the surface.
