Personal Comment: You may need to get out an old clock for this one.

Watching the Clock Enigma

What we know: A high school graduate got a filing clerk job at a local insurance office. Over a couple slow days, he stayed over night and watched the clock for 24 hours exactly. He wanted to know how many times the minute hand passed the hour hand. He figured out that it would be the same as the difference of the number of times the second hand passed the hour hand and from the number of times that the second hand passed the minute hand. He did not know there was an easier way.

Enigma: How many times does the minute hand pass the hour hand per day?

Solution: The minute hand passes the hour hand 22 times per day.

The second hand passes the minute hand 1416 times, and The second hand passes the hour hand 1438 times per day (22 more times than the minute hand).
