- physical changes are changes in condition of matter that do not result in the formation of a new substance. Examples are
- bending
- tearing
- all changes of state
- chemical changes are changes in the condition of a substance that do result in the formation of a new substance. You'll know this has occurred by the following indicators:
- unusual change of color
- change in energy
- exothermic- releases energy (gets warmer)
- endothermic-absorbs energy(gets cooler)
- precipitate formed (solid settles out)
- gas is produced (bubbles, fumes)
