Speed and Velocity
Motion
- change in position. Must use a reference point (frame of reference)
Speed
- rate of change of position
- describes how fast the object is moving
Instantaneous Speed
- describes the speed at any given instant
constant speed
- speed that does not change
average speed
- total distance divided by total time
- can be calculated by equation
v = d/t
v = speed, d = distance, t = time
Graphing Speed
- On a distance-time graph, the slope of the line between any two points is the average speed of that interval
- Remember the MBL Lab- Graphing Your Motion
