Last week's story on Rehavam Ze'evi's accusations of
collaborating with
Israel - leveled against the father of Arafat-aide Ahmed Tibi and
the uncle
of Arab MK Abdel Darawshe - has a continuation. It
has been learned by
Arutz-7 that the story was "buried" by Voice of Israel
Radio, after threats
by Tibi that if it broadcast the item, its reporters would not be
allowed
in to the autonomous areas.
Ze'evi's accusations were originally broadcast live on Knesset
station
Channel 33, and a report of the incident was later broadcast on
Voice of
Israel's Arabic-language news. When Tibi heard that
reporter Michael
Tuchfeld was preparing a report for broadcast for the Hebrew
radio, Tibi
called a senior Israeli broadcasting official and pressured him
not to air
the story. The order was given to hold the story, and to
run it the next
morning only if it appeared in the daily newspapers. When
the next
morning's papers did not run the story, neither did Israel Radio.
Employees of Israel Radio
allege that Tibi called the country's newspapers,
threatening not to allow their reporters into the Palestinian
autonomy if
they dared publish the story.
Arutz-7 and Hatzofeh newspaper, which ran the story today, were
unsuccessful
in their attempts to elicit a response from either Tibi, Israel
Radio head
Amnon Nadav, or IBA Director-General Uri Porat.
