Brigadier General Jacob Ammen

West Point Graduate 1831

Transferred as Colonel to the 24th OVI 22 June 1861 at age 55

The veterans of the 24th Ohio Infantry Regiment revered their first colonel. Although a West Point graduate, Ammen was patient with his volunteer soldiers. His concern for their well being earned him the nickname "Uncle Jake."

Died 6 February 1894 at Lockland, Ohio
