Private William T. Connell


William T. Connell was born May 25, 1838. After Confederates fired on Fort Sumter, he was among Adams County's first citizens to enlist in the Union Cause on 27 May 1861. Near the end of his three years service with Company D, Private Connell was wounded in his left hand at Chattanooga and lost much mobility in it. Still, Connell remained with the company and was discharged honorably at the expiration of his enlistment term on June 12, 1864.

Following his war service, Connell became a carpenter. He moved across the Ohio River to New Brighton in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, where he spent much of the remainder of his life.

After retiring from active work, Connell returned to Ohio. His last residence was in Youngstown, Ohio, where he died on March 15, 1915.
