PRIVATE GEORGE M. VINING

George M. Vining enlisted to serve three years with Company C on June 1, 1861, at the age of 25. He served honorably and received his discharge on June 22, 1864.

George returned to Ottawa County, and made his home at Oak Harbor, Ohio. Vining was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and kept close ties with the 24th O.V.I. veterans' reunion organization. He is listed as living at Oak Harbor, Ohio, on the 24th O.V.I. reunion rosters for 1891, 1893, and 1896.

This image depicts a turn of the 20th century G.A.R. reunion. The 43rd Annual Encampment of the Ohio Department, Grand Army of the Republic, was hosted at East Liverpool, Ohio from June 22-25, 1914. Front Row (L-R) Isaac Burlingame, George Vining, and Henry Arner. Back Row (L-R) Henry Beck and an unidentified Ohioan. All four of the identified members served in Company C, 24th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

George Vining died October 9, 1915, and is interred in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, Ohio.
