Cherusken has rejected an offer to join the Holy Empire of Reunion. The offer was recieved by the Foreign Ministry several days ago and answered today. It its reply, the Foreign Ministry emphasized that Cherusken would continue to have friendly relations with Reunion, but that it was not prepared to join another micronation at the current time.

The Assembly has voted to charter the University of Cherusken. Several Councilors felt that Cherusken needed an institute of higher learning. Noted Councilor Karen Z., "This is a great step forward for Cherusken. Such an institution will greatly aid our development as a nation." Explained Councilor Seewald, "The University probably won't become an actual school with classes and stuff. It'll be more like a temple of knowledge, very academic and all." Councilors discussed the benefits of the University, and have high hopes for it. There are currently plans to transfer the archives to the Univeristy, and perhaps even create an encyclopedia.

Cherusken has officially joined the League of Secessionist States. Foreign Minister Schultze has been named as Ambassador. In a statement posted to the GA message board, the Foreign Ministry noted that Cherusken would be a member of both organizations, and that its committment to the GA had not died.

The Assembly has passed a proposal that will settle the issue of dual citizenship in Cherusken. Under the plan, dual citizenship is allowed. Said citizens will be allowed to be ambassadors and councilors in the Assembly like normal citizens. However, for a dual citizen to be appointed to a ministerial-level position requires that the candidate be approved by three-fourths of the Assembly. Dual citizen and councilor Amy Steiner commented, "I think that the law is good, because it allows each dual citizen to still hold office and things like that, and allows them to be judged on a case by case basis."

In a move that may surprise other micronations, the Assembly has voted that Cherusken will not become a party to the Convention for the Repudiation of Espionage Activities Between Nations. Although many Counselors expressed their support for the intent of the treaty, there was opposition to certain parts of the Convention, such as provisions for trial in the country of the spy's citizenship.

In a vote with little controversey, the Assembly has granted the Foreign Minister's request to petition the LOSS for Cheruskian membership.

On July 6, 1998 the Cheruskian Assembly approved a landmark plan which creates the Cheruskian Commonwealth. After two weeks of high-level negotiations between Cherusken and Aveshria, the plan was brought to the Assembly to be voted on. The Commonwealth is designed to strengthen ties between the nations, and to provide greater stability and security for both. As required in any such matter, the plan received a unanimous vote in the Assembly, ensuring its passage and that there will be no constitutional challenges.

Following the Assembly vote approving the creation of the Cheruskian Commonwealth, the following joint statement was issued by the foreign ministries of Cherusken and Aveshria:

After negotiations, Aveshria has decided to join the now
forming Cheruskian Commonwealth.  The Kingdom of Aveshria will 
maintain its independence and its queen, but will join in a 
special relationship with the Kingdom of Cherusken.  Aveshria 
will continue to maintain its own site, but its path of 
development will be geared towards greater integration with 
Cherusken.  Both nations are certain that this arrangement will 
prove mutually beneficial.

The Foreign Ministry issued a statement today which announced the opening of relations with the Barony of Telusia. Telusia is not on the web at the moment, but plans to be soon.

The Assembly has voted to grant a charter to the Bank of Cherusken. This financial institution will serve the needs of Cheruskians and others wishing to deal with Cherusken's economy.

In two seperate votes today, the Assembly authorized the creation of a Cheruskian language and the producition of the Thaler. The currency will have a temporary design, until a more intricate design is produced.
