In
1979 when we lost our old Cocker Spaniel, my Dad Ivan saw a
Cavalier. In trying to find out what this breed was,
we found our first Cavalier Lillibet Rhubarb
"Ricky" later in 1980. later that year for
Christmas, I was given our new addition Clareview Cabri
"Suzy".
After
going to various dog shows, my parents Ivan & Ann
decided they were going to start showing our Cavaliers.
In
1982, after trying our "Ricky" and
"Suzy" in the showring, we were fortunate in
purchasing Lwillows Justa Bet, a Aust. & NZ. Ch.
Leynsord Hatter (Imp UK) daughter
from Jenny Arthur and were offered a Le Chevalier bred girl
from Ron & Trish Mumford.
Lwillows Justa Bet - "Jenny"
Our
new show team was "Jenny" and "Prue".
"Jenny" was so close to her title but once she
knew what motherhood was like, decided her show days were
over! Jenny's mother was
Aust. Ch. Est Royal Winsome, a litter sister to Aust. Ch.
Est Royal Windsor, one of the legends of our breed.
We
then obtained a new puppy, Elchristeve Zach from Margaret
Ubukata. "Zach" was our first Champion.
We were fortunate to breed an Aust. Ch. from our "Zach"
and "Suzie" - Aust. Ch. Cavalodge Kent, owned by
Chas & Mary Hamm.
Aust CH Elchristeve Zach - "Zach"
We
mated our "Prue" to Aust. Ch. Barleycorn Arabis
"Toby". From that litter we had our first
owner/bred Aust. Ch. Cavalodge Promise. A litter
brother of "Promise" went to Jenny Arthur.
He was known as "Ivan the Terrible" and was a
good stud dog for Lwillows.
Aust CH Cavalodge Promise - "Promise"
We
mated "Prue" to Aust. Ch. Alansmerre Daybreak
(Imp UK). This was the start of a connection with
our great friend Brenda Durance "Cliveden"
to whom we are ever grateful for all her assistance.
From this litter, we bred Aust. Ch. Cavalodge Ice Breaker
"Sammy".
Aust CH Cavalodge Ice Breaker -
"Sammy".
Over
the years we have had the pleasure of showing some of
Brenda's dogs for her and two that obtained their titles
were Aust. Ch. Cliveden Flash Harry and Aust. Ch.
Cliveden Tuesday Weld. Through Brenda's bloodlines, we
have introduced the beautiful Homerbrent, Salador and
Alansmere lines to our kennel.
We
had the great pleasure of winning Minor Puppy in Show at the
1990 Victorian Cavalier Specialty under Mr John Fothergill
(UK) with Korebeit Caddie, a daughter of our Aust. Ch.
Cavalodge Ice Breaker "Sammy". Sadly,
"Caddie" died from Eclampsia during whelp.
In
1996, my parents Ivan & Ann stopped showing but we still
had the occasional litter. Mum was the organiser with
our Cavaliers. When my dad was diagnosed with Multiple
Myeloma, his passion for our dogs was gone. Sadly, my
mum Ann lost her battle with Cancer in Feb. 2003. As
long as we have our Cavaliers, this is something that would
make my mum so proud and she would be so happy that I'm
starting back in the show ring.
In
2004, Cavalodge will be in the showring again, with our
first litter arriving to our youngest girl of the family -
Cavalodge Dancing Girl "Chrissie". Our
Cavalodge Anna had her second litter in Oct. 2003.
Also joining the show team will be the sire of both
litters Cliveden Illustrious
"Joey", who is a son of Aust. Ch. Homerbrent
Illustrate (Imp. UK).
I'd
like to thank those responsible for the great friendships we
have made along the way with our Cavaliers - Brenda Durance "Cliveden",
Merv Burgmann "Inverglen", Jenny Arthur "Lwillows",
Margaret Ubukata "Elchristeve", Ron & Trish
Mumford "St Bede". I'd also like to thank
those people who have given our puppies wonderful homes
since 1982.
