The Antioch Workshop

To kick off the Antioch Programme in 1998, a workshop was organised for the students in the Nativity Church Centre. This workshop is meant to act as an icebreaking session between new students and seniors. It is also meant to convey the true meaning of Antioch to the students.

The first item for the workshop involved introducing the people within Antioch as well as briefing new students about what Antioch is and what it is not.

All eyes on Webster, the Level Co-ordinator as he gives his opening address.

All latecomers were given a welcoming STARE.

The workshop was followed by Praise & Worship sessions as well as some icebreakers.

Praising the Lord in unison.

Webster went on to brief the students on some of the major projects which may be carried out this year. The new students were also taught how to sing the Antioch Pledge by former Antioch catechist, Clement. He is now the Level Co-ordinator of Secondary 1. After an eventful morning, lunch was served. (Notice that I reserved comment on the quality of the food). Well, like what the Chinese always say, (direct translation) "The good show is at the end."

Eating lunch in unison.

After lunch, it's time to get cracking again. After a brief Praise and Worship session, It is time to introduce the 4 ministries to the newbies. A short presentation of the 4 ministries was done by the various group leaders of Antioch last year. For more info, see groupings last year.

This was followed by games prepared by Adrian and Wendy. It was an exciting time as the students divided themselves into 4 groups, competing in Charades, Bible Quiz, Scavenger Hunt, Pictionary and Prayer Writing (not composing).

The Heat Is On. Students scampering all around the room to hunt for religious articles.

Finally, the sweet taste of victory.

Teamwork and camaraderie was evident during the games, demonstrating the need for unity in Antioch to function as a whole. But now it was time to settle down for a session by Sr Florence, with the topic "You are the Light of the World". After the session, the students were asked to write a letters to "themselves 4 months from now", affirming their resolutions to commit themselves to Antioch.

Sr Florence emphasing the importance of light and salt in our lives.

The last item on the workshop, Dinner on the Grill. It's time to pack up and get ready as BBQ was prepared in the carpark next to container. Dinner was scrumptious , (notice that I did comment this time, and we even got Fr Kenson, Sr Lily, Sr Mary Wong and Sr Florence to join us for the BBQ. When it comes to food, it's "no holds barred time" and the religious turned gourmet consultants with Fr Kenson giving advice on how to tenderise the beef, and Sr Mary giving tips on adding the appropriate sauce for better taste.

The Master Chef in action.

It would be a day to remember as the workshop draws to an end with a photo taking session. For those present, it was the end of the workshop,. For Antioch, it is just another new beginning ... ...

The workshop was great. The faces say it all.
