This University has the honour to serve the proud Pathans of the North Western Frontier Province (Sarhad) located in the heart of Peshawar the capital city of this province.
This University was recognised as a University in the Year 1980, but it has the honour to be the firstEngineering College in the area started in November 1952,offering courses in three disciplines namely Electrical, Civil and Mechanical Engineering and was affiliated to Peshawar University for award of Bachelor's degree in Engineering.It was a great establishment of the Honorable Khan Abdul Qayum Khan, the chief
Minister of the NWFP, laying the foundation stone of the College.
Since its establishment as a College of Engineering in 1952, this institution has been training
Engineers upto the first degree level in all the major disciplines of engineering. In 1980 it got its separate identity as University and started Bachelor's degree course in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Agriculture and Mining Engineering.In 1995 the Department of Chemical Engineering has
also been added with the intake of 25 students. After gaining the status of an Engineering
University in 1980, efforts were focussed on introducing postgraduate studies in various
disciplines. As a first step, in 1984, postgraduate courses leading to M.Sc. degree were started
in Civil Engineering. In 1990 the remaining departments also started postgraduate
programmes. The University is also planning to start M.Phil/Ph.D. programme in the near
future.
