FILIPINO STUDENT ASSOCIATION

got rice?

WELCOME BACK!

And for all of you new members, welcome to FSA. Here we are again, a new year of college life. Oh man. For me, it'll be a year of massive test cramming, long as hell labs, and not enough time for myself. For all of you new freshman, I invite you to check out my list of needs, found on the index page. It'll make you laugh, but it'll also make you think.

Here's something you all might be interested in, DUES! Yep, we gotta pay 'em. Twenty dollars is not that bad when you compare our dues to the dues of the Greeks. Yeah, like I'll take out a student loan so that you can call me your friend. If you want to save some money, pay the dues early, and you'll only have to spend TEN dollars. Wow, what a bargain.

What do you get out of joining FSA? Whatever you can get from it. If you want to be in a stupid clique, then by all means do so, but your college time is meant for meeting new people. Through FSA I've gotten to meet many of the Filipinos here in San Antonio (I'm from Houston). Joining student groups look good on your resumes because it shows people that you can play well with others, and that you didn't spend your entire college experience in a little cave with no running water. Join, join, join. Have fun, get to know us, we're really nice people, honest.

Could someone please get me a newer picture?

Yeah, I know the photo is old, but I don't have any of the new ones yet. For an even bigger image, click on the photo.

WE ARRIVE FROM GOODPHIL, VICTORIOUS!

Guess what, everyone, we did it!!! Congratulations to all who participated in showing everyone who has the best FSA. I'll post more results as I get them, so be patient.

Here's some important quotes I picked up from Goodphil this year:

Could someone please talk to me and tell me what's coming up? I'm really in the dark...

My Memories of FSA's Beginnings

My, has our little FSA grown! I remember when my roomate, Jamie, told me about there being a group of filipinos that started a student organization. I though, "are there really that many filipinos at UTSA?" When I met most of the members, I realized that we were a small group. But being small had it's advantages. The older members will remember what I'm going to talk about. We were together most of the time in school and out of school. We always seemed to have breaks in between class that we shared, so I could always look forward to seeing a familiar face in the cafeteria. You could tell that the group was there from all the tagalog that was being spoken. We played cards most of the time, and Lyndon would usually try to get us to go see a movie. Heh, I can still remember Lyndon telling us to skip class. When he would finally convice us to go, we usually had ten minutes to get to the theater! Sometimes, we hadn't even decided what we were going to watch! Let me just say that we rarely got to the movies on time. We were usually seen fumbling around in the dark, looking for a row that had enough seats to accomodate our group. We were a sight to see! After the movie, we'd usually have to rush back to school because we had class. You couldn't say that we were predictible. What I'll remember most was Go Kart racing, though...

The reason why I'm telling you about this is to show you what we were like back then. Now, I rarely see a group in the Cafeteria. Granted, we all have class at different times, but now, we hardly see each other outside of meetings and special events. I do miss leaving class, going to the cafeteria, and being met by two tables full of filipinos. Yeah, well look at me; I hardly make it to more that two or three meetings every year. Hopefully, things will change and we'll be able to experience this again. Being big is great, but being close was even better.

Those are just my thoughts.....
