Amnesty International is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that works through letters and campaigns in order to respect and promote all human rights. These rights are very important because they ensure people their freedome, their dignity, their respect and individuality. This organization is impartial and is independent of any government or religious creed, thus being a universal movement, without borders to limit our actions on helping those in need. These are mainly prisioners of conscience, those who have been arested because of religion, colour, race or belief. But Amnesty International also acts to insure fair trials for political prisioners, fight against death penalty and those who oppose what is stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
At our school AI has been acting through a group of adolescents who meet weekly to discuss topics related to these human rights, acting with letters directed to the governments and authorities of places where these rights are not respected.
