for the past two days i have made the three block stretch from my office building to my car barefoot. it's nothing unusual for me to shed my shoes, but doing so in a swanky neighborhood like this is a bit weird. i can see the stares from behind the wheels of beamers and lexus and mercedes........

mostly women, of course, men don't typically care. the problem i'm having is i'm determined to wear these new sandals (since my old ones are kaput and i have nothing else to go with the dresses and skirts i'm wearing...plus i hate a complete close down on the feet in the summer), and these sandals are chewing my feet up....don't they test drive these things? i swear...i tried them on, no indication of the ensuing agony they would bring. so each day i bandage my toes and heels and limp around...trying to look "professional" (there's that word again.....)

a little mexican gentleman told me yesterdy that he liked my glasses...."they look good on you..you have small eyes and are a very beautiful woman." he then kissed my hand and said his goodbyes. i was flattered, as i always am when someone takes the time to pay me a compliment. i have always been fairly successful in attracting the admiration of hispanic men...not to sound narcissistic...it's just a gift i suppose...and the fact that i have fairly hispanic features. my friend, shanti, from india, says i look eastern european.... i don't know.....a lady i used to work with told me i was the unanimated version of pocahontas....then there's the fellow at the gas station in lafayette and my aunt mary who claim i hold a striking resemblance to shania twain......and at a pageant in high school (yes, believe it or not i did those things!!!!), many fellow contestants swore i was twin to some anna lady from general hospital....i think i look a little like my mom, a little like my dad, but i got my grandfather's eyes....and my aunt janice's smile.....

from an interview with tom robbins:

"well, a lot of people have trouble reading it since they are expecting plot development in a linear way. the way i structure is like one of those old fashioned lighthouses before there was electricity. a lamp would come on in a little cubicle of the lighthouse and another would turn on somewhere else until eventually the whole thing is illuminated. someone seeing it from a distance wouldn't necessarily notice that it's being filled in by all these little lights."

thanks to rick i am now putting in an order for the new robbins book fierce invalids home from hot climates. it's a good thing he put out a new release, because i've just started even cowgirls get the blues, and after that jitterbug perfume would be the last of his works that i haven't read...it would make me sad...

i've started going to the office. the price: about 3 hours of driving a day. the result: i can't stand to sit at the computer when i get home.

i have yet to get my computer set-up in the office. it arrived on monday and this morning i asked for the workgroup name for the network...la de da....i'm in waiting mode. i've gotten used to it. patience is a virtue, right? anyway i share an office with another company and i try to be compliant. they are much busier than i am...i can wait.

once i get things set-up again i should be back in blogging mode. it isn't that i have nothing to say....it just has gotten all muddled due to long hours away from home...i have never been much of a weekend blogger.....i have someone to occupy my time then, and considering the fact that the most social interaction i get through the week stems form the people in check-out lines, i figure the computer can wait.

i went shopping tonight on the way home. lord knows i have nothing to wear at work, and i desperately need to get some stuff quick. it also cures the need to do laundry....i don't reckon i have time for laundry...of course i made time to shop...oh well, anyway....i bought clothes that were pretty thrifty. mainly some indian skirts that were dark enough that they were less transparent....i have grown so weary of trying to put on the "professional" look. after all, your opinion of me is based on my attitude, tactic, and moral backing, correct? why should i be sporting panty hose and heels? i'll never be a power executive...i'm more the nice young lady with the friendly manners.....southern hospitality. it's worked for me so far. so i ended up with a short indian sundress and an indian wrap-around skirt. if i play my cards right i can be a bit more comfortable at work.
,br> i was kind of sad to see the sandals i have appear to be out of fashion. i've worn them for about 3 years...no major name, but a nice sandal. i found something similar but with some sort of platform action in the back. i wasn't fallen into it. what's the deal with these crazy shoes where you're practically a foot off the ground? i'm already taller than a lot of men i know, there's no way i'm putting those things on.

so i ended up with a pair that are similar to my sandals, except they are a little more enclosing. the old sandals will be going back to the cobbler. all they need is a little stitching...good as new. i paid 8 bucks last summer to get a repair done on them. it's a worthy deal. i figure that we often patch our tires to get a little more mileage out of them....it's the same thing. a sad aspect of life: once you find something in life you like, it will inevitably go out of fashion. lucky for me the adidas gazelle soccer shoes are always around....always in black...it started with a beastie boys concert......it's become a dedication...to the shoe, not the beasties.

if you read this far you probably recognize the lack of coherence in this post. i apologize. i wanted to get a note up on a book i've been reading: half asleep in frog pajamas, robbins, of course. imagine a book where the main character is you, and you's a phillipino stockbroker going through easter weekend after the market crashes. you're looking for an escaped monkey who used to be a burglary accomplice in france, but was rescued by your boyfriend who is thoroughly lutheran, he goes out of town...looking for the monkey.....meanwhile, your 300 lb. psychic best friend disappears, you meet this guy back from timbuktu, who used to be a broker who lost in the last crash and who believes our race descended from aliens from syrius who were amphibious mammals.....and that they send us messages in the form of psychedelic mushrooms....by way of spores they send to earth.......

oh yeah, you're a snob...and you'll hate yourself.

dude, read it....you dig?!
