NEUTRAL ZONE TRAP
Suppose the opposing puckcarrying defensemen is building up speed toward the blueline. His defensive partner is skating up with him but behind a few strides. (See Below)
IF THE FIRST FORECHECKER starts his angle too early (forcing the puckcarrier to skate toward the boards, see below) the puckcarrying defenseman (red man in box) can pass over to his partner (D to D) and your trap must make a big adjustment to compensate. There is a coverage for this passing option but its not as strong as if the puckcarrier was forced toward the boards.
