WEAKSIDE COVERAGE

So how do you defend against this type of passing when the opposition is attempting to defeat your trap?

F1 MUST read the play and start skating quickly to defend the middle(take middle away) His job remains the same forcing the puckcarrier to boards.

F3 Backskates on an angle and he defends his zone the same way F2 did on the opposite board. F1 is forcing the puckcarrier to F3 much like he did on the strong side.

F2 is now in charge of the weakside playing the zone as F3 previously did.

D1 backs up F3 the same way D2 backed up F2.

D2 covers the middle of the ice at the blueline and can go either way.

There are other variations to this system. Nothing is written in stone. When experimenting with the trap make the necessary changes to suite your team. These descriptions are how the trap works successfully for me. Good Luck!
