In quite a mediocre game, Hapoel Haifa still managed to beat Hapoel Tel-Aviv at home with the latter's last year inevitable weapon - a small 1:0. The saves of Shavit Elimelekh and the misses of Holtzman and Rosso were compensated by another foul inside the box on Liron Basis (the 3rd this season!). Giovanni Rosso made an educational gesture and gave the right of shot to Shai Holtzman, and Haifa hopes the converted penalty will give the forward a so much needed self-confidence. A man to have enough self-confidence is definitely Dudu Awwat, with 4 games in Haifa's net and no goals conceded.

In a great game of both sides, those were the keepers' brilliant saves, 4 goals, a penalty, 9 yellow and 2 red cards. It was a night of Istvan Salloi most of all - the forward who paid a $10,000 fine for criticising the coach Dror Kashtan and missed the home game vs Glasgow Rangers, showed fully his hunger for the ball. Hapoel Jerusalem, despite losing its 2 key players and the game, showed itself as one of the most attractive teams in the whole National League.

Judging by now, though, the most attractive team is surely Maccabee Petakh-Tikwa, with 14 goals scored in 4 games! Yesterday came the turn of Maccabee Ironi Ashdod, quite unimpressive in itself, to be devastated at home. The goals were beautiful as well - a volley shot from inside the box of Guy Itzhak, a great solo penetration of Rajid Bransi with 3 defenders left behind, a sharp shot of Ismail Amar from 16 meters, and the same performance by Idan Tal who became "The Player Of The Week". In Ashdod, only Amir Turgeman was somehow his usual self (and he's "The Best Scorer" by now), with Alberto Naveda and Naor Galili showing the occasional sparkles; the team of Nir Levin will need much-much more to stay in the League with no problems.

A cool free kick of Ilie Stan and a charming solo penetration of Gabor Marton weren't the whole story of the game - Walid Badir and Manor Hassan were very close to enlarging the margin, and there were also several decent saves by the veteran Shuli Gilardi. Reuven Attar seems finally to start regaining his form of France winner in 1993, and in the Israeli League it means much. Herzliya looked very dull, without the injured Vladimir Niederhaus and Oren Dantziger, as well as in quite a bad day of Vassili Ivanov and Oleg Naduda.

Finally at home (and not in Nahariya), and finally with most of its key players passing the budget control (except for Gala Pancheladze), Beit-Shean has a chance to look decently, though the road is still very long. Yesterday, those were the 2 different halves - before the break, the guests scored, missed a penalty kick and pressed all the time; however, after the break, it was the opposite. Nedzad Zaric shot an unstoppable cannon bomb from 22 meters, after the preparation of Samson Siasiah, and so opened the score; 13 minutes before that, Meir Cohen stopped a penalty of Beni Hadad called for the dive of David Kabeda inside the box. An equalizer of Beit-Shean was its opening goal this season, and it was a true masterpiece - the young Yaniv Biton, trying to run away from his defender, 35 meters from the net of Holon at the left wing and with his back to it, suddenly saw Alexander Zhidkov out of his net, turned around and arched a clever ball past the flying keeper! After a red card shown to Shlomi Dahan, Beit-Shean tried to score a winner, but in vain.

The team of Elisha Levi definitely knows how to score, but after scoring it loses the calmness and enables the rivals to endanger its points - starting with Beitar Jerusalem's injury time equalizer and going on with Maccabee Tel-Aviv's two reducers, yesterday it turned out to be disastrous. An unusual shot of Udi Kabudi from 25 meters (6) and his back volley 15 minutes later just incurred the wrath of Kefar-Saba, led by its wonderful substitute Niv Tal. Unlike previously, now it wasn't the day of Yaniv Mizrahi as well.

An incredible in its beauty shot of Nidal Mahamid, who managed to beat Bnei-Yehuda's dormant keeper Shaul Smadja with an arched free kick from 45 meters, became Maccabee Yaffa's opening goal this season. Basically, it was the first and the last positive point about this team's game. Again, it was an early red card shown to its defender, and from that point on Irakliy Zoidze became once again the most miserable man on the pitch, though not to blame for most of the goals. Nobody in Bnei-Yehuda remembers the last time the team scored 6 goals, but yesterday Yossi Madar and Cobi Refua could feel the kings. And even Yossi Abuksis of Bnei-Yehuda could feel for 90 minutes like Yossi Abuksis of Beitar, the National team player.
