School: Cincinnati Pick 20, Round 6, Overall 183 Four-sport standout (baseball, basketball, football and track) in high school. Attended Milford Academy in 1992. Came to Cincinnati in '93 but failed to compile any offensive stats. Caught 34 passes for 407 yards and three touchdowns and returned 15 kickoffs for 366 yards and 19 punts for 145 yards in '94 while starting five games. Had his best year in '95, catching 46-895-5, leading the nation in kickoff-return average (34.3 yards) on 15-515 and one touchdown and returning 28 punts for 240 yards. Was named Conference USA Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Year. Had a disappointing senior season, catching just 23-247-2 and returning 26 punts for 252 yards and 11 kickoffs for 202 yards. Fine all-around athlete. Good quickness and speed. Can return punts and kickoffs. Was an impact player in '95. Runs hard. Will block. Didn't look like the same player in '96. Did not appear to be as quick, fast, creative or explosive and struggled to get separation when running his routes. Failed to show much creativity as a return man. Was an inconsistent catcher who tried to body-catch a lot of balls. Looked almost stiff and rigid at times and was not as physical when blocking downfield. Really dropped off a lot in '96 after looking like a solid make-it and possible starter- type prospect in '95, making it impossible to tell which Robert Tate the team that selects him will have next fall. |
