Today Lightning had a very good game against the Warriors that have demontrate in the last
few games to be a tough team. And indeed they were. Closing on all the chances
for Lightning to advance 3/4 of the field they have been a very strong challenge for Lightning
that could not overcome Warriors the easy way. It has been a match up game.
Lightning, today, missing two key defenders out of town for sibling's tournament in
Phoenix for the Battle of the Roses, started the game with a change in midfield and the
defensive line-up. Although with hardship and not quiet the way Lightning played in the last
few games they have demonstrate their toughness with good clearing in defence from everybody.
TJ playing an unusual role and Bucky gave their best positioned today in the defensive line-up
with the help of Jason and Brandon they have all showed good self esteem and stop the Warriors
plays when most need it and able to keep the score leveled at half time. Lightning had three,
four ocassions to go ahead but shots from Kerry, Guy, JC , Weston and Pierce they where wide.
A good ball exchanges from midfield, from everybody, weren't enough for Lightning with the Warriors
pressure on every chance of a break through.
On the second half things got better and Lightning had three close chances to score. Once Pierce shoot was deviated by a defender and Guy shot hit the far post which went to Weston that kick it out. Later on, Tyler breaks through and passes to Guy and his shoot was too central and the keeper had not difficulties. Moment later, same circumstance, from a ball that came from the half line cleared by Julian, Eric receives and passes to Pierce that send in Kerry on the right and his shot was two inches from the post. Warriors had their chance to score when after an indirect kick was awarded for having made to many step by the keeper in the motion to put the ball into play. A little confusion in the box but well manouvered by the defence. Lightning attacks again, Pierce dribbles several players, then shots and the ball rebounded from a defender all accross the goal mouth where Guy try again but now the keeper deviated and the ball end up on Pierce feet that had not trouble to touch it in the net. Lightning at 1-0 kept up the pace of game. Warriors tried to fire back and almost scored few minutes late but a foul on Bucky prevented their chances. Lightning re-stenghtened the defence line-up by putting JC in his normal sweeper position, Weston as left full back intead of in normal position as forward, hold up until the end of the match Warriors's pressure. Lightning will play again the Warriors on tuesday if there will not be a schedule change and the two teams they will have the opportunity to adjust at their styles of play, and it will be another well played game.
