Dear Discophiles,
It's official. The Articles of Incorporation for the Silicon Valley Disc Golf Club have been filed with the state of California and we're a non-profit corporation. The Board of Directors consists of Jim Challas, Doug Korns and Tom Schot. One of the next steps will be to seek a status with the IRS as a 501c3 organization and follow in the path of the DeLaveaga Disc Golf Club. Donations made to DeLaveaga DGC are tax deductible!. We want that same ability. Until we acquire the desired status you may want to consider donating to DeLaveaga DGC and they will use the money to help in the growth of disc golf in San Jose.
WORK WEEKEND. Saturday and Sunday, May 30th & 31st. If you're skilled in the art of cement work please let us know your capabilities in experience and materials. We're going to be working on tee pads and spring clean-up projects. We're also going to replace the two stolen holes, numbers 13 & 16, with Mach V baskets. The Mach V hole sleeve is a different size than the Mach III so we'll also be sinking a few more sleeves. Bring your gloves and weed cutters and shovels and rakes and hoes and cement mixers and augers and other tool that might help. 9 AM is when we'll start.
CHECK OUT www.oocities.org/Colosseum/Field/8928/ We've got a website. Thanks to Mark Anderson and Doug Korns for their efforts. There's a map of the course and we'll be posting the results of our monthly tournaments as well as using the site as a focal point for communication.
MONTHLY TOURNAMENTS. We're designating the 2nd Saturday of the month as Club Tournament Time. All interested players should gather at 9:30 at the 1st tee. Entry fees will be split between the prize money pool and supporting the club.
MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. We're seeking to sell advertising on our tee signs (coming soon) a la DeLaveaga. Please give us your ideas on raising money for the Club. Our insurance is about $750 a year, we pay $250 for a tractor with brush hog to knock down the monster weeds, corporation taxes are an annual cost of about $200 and there's more. We do not receive monetary help from the Park & Rec and we are truly on our own to make this work. You get the picture.
LOGO, LOGO, LOGO. We need a picture. Or something. Or anything. Or we'll never get those t-shirts to our Charter Members. A Club disc is not too far behind once we get the logo. Post your design on our website or send it to one of the Board Members.
PARKING, PARKING, PARKING. You can purchase an annual vehicle pass for ALL the county parks for $50.00 and it's good through the end of this year. Call 408-358-3741. Those $4.00 fees per visit will quickly add up.
LONG RANGE plans include building and maintaining two bridges that will be used on a seasonal basis from mid-April to mid-October. The bridges will allow access to future holes 3 through 9. Another project will be to plant numerous trees and bushes (yes, this is also at our expense) per the terms of our Use Permit we have with the county. We'll have a detailed list of plantings needed in our next newsletter. Suggested planting time is from November through January.
See you at the course!
