Coming Local Tournaments
This event was held for the first time in January 1999 with an encouraging 44 teams. It is with such strong support that we decided to make this event an annual one.
This interschool event precedes the National Interschool jointly organised by SCF and Bishan East CSC. The intention of having such an event is two fold. Firstly, to help chess players prepare for the National Interschools as well as the National Individual due in March. Secondly, this event is designed to be much cheaper than the actual National Interschools, so schools can seriously consider it as an actual training exercise under real tournament conditions. Captains can use this event to try out new strategies, test opening ideas and let your players, especially your reserves, gain experience.
This rapid-game event is to be held on the 27th of February.
All schools are reminded to hand in your entry forms to Bukit Batok CC, together with entry fees, by the 24th of February.
Interested schools without entry form may obtain them from Bukit Batok CC during office hours.
All captains are reminded to attend the captains' meeting on the 26th of February. Please read your entry form for details.
This event is soley organised by SCF.
Event held on alternate weekends, on 19/02(Sat), 20/02(Sun), 26/02(Sat) and 27/02(Sun). On Saturdays, the rounds begin at 2.30pm and 1.30pm respectively. However, rounds on Sundays begin at 10am! So all church goers, make sure you wake up early and go for the earliest service!
Entry fee seemed to be rather steep here. As usual, I am speaking from my perspective as an adult non-member. I have to pay a whooping S$70.00(!) to play in a S$300.00 first prize event. Sigh...Perhaps only when I start working in a few months time then only can I afford such luxuries.
Please go to SCF webpage for the entry form.
This event is jointly organised by Cairnhill CCMC and Chess Club. This explains why the entry fee is quite affordable.
A one day event on 5th of March(Sunday) for those who desire to have some fun but don't wish to spend so much time on the game. Event starts at 1.30pm so particpants can rest a bit more in the morning.
Prizes for the the top 6 positions are indeed attractive at S$30.00 for every win and S$5.00 for every draw, at a reasonable entry fee of S$25.75. Anyone who score 100% after 20 rounds (11 rounds in the prelim and 9 in the finals) will earn a hefty S$600.00! This system also gurantee many fighting chess as winners earn 6 times more than a draw. I will expect this tournament to be a very popular one among all level of chess players. Maybe youths may find the entry fee a little high. Perhaps next year the organiser can lower the entry fee for players under 21 to encourage more to play.
There are a total of 10 top prizes, including chess programs(8th-10th) and chess clock(7th). There are also category prizes, of which winners pocket S$50.00.
Entries submitted after the 4th of March will be charged at a higher S$30.90.
Please go to SCF webpage for the entry form.

This is a 2 day event on Saturday(18/03) and Sunday(19/03) targeted at the under-20 only. The round on Sunday starts at 9.00am and ends at 5.00pm. Church goers may have to wake up early to attend the earliest service so as to not miss the round 5.
Time control is at one hour per side.
Non-members pay S$15.00 for entry fee.
Prizes? Other than the mention of trophies, nothing else is said about prizes.
My personal opinion of the way National Youth Champoionships are held in recent years still holds, despite the increment in time control from 25min to 60min perside. Take note that it was a 120min perside event before.
Entries submitted after 12/03 will be charged an additional S$10.00.
Please go to SCF webpage for the entry form.
