DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

Boy was THAT a long ride home. Our worst defensive performance of the season led to an 80-70 defeat at Ball State. We allowed the Cardinals to hit 13-22 from 3-point range, including 10 in the first half. BSU shot 53% for the game, played aggressive defense that forced us into 22 turnovers, and played with emotion. We were tentative on offense, lax on perimeter defense, and unable to take advantage of the few opportunities we were given. Freshman Darnell Archey came off the bench to provide the bulk of our offense in the first half, draining 4 treys en route to 16 points. He even got to start in the second half, but was removed quickly after he missed a shot and didn't see any more playing time until the 2:00 mark. That astounded me. He was the ONLY Bulldog shooting with any agressiveness, and he didn't play for the bulk of the second half. He finished with 18 points. LaVall Jordan had a big game, finishing with a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Mike Marshall added 16 points and 8 boards, and Rylan Hainje finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Will this team EVER win a road game? At Hinkle, they played agressively on both ends of the floor and won by an average of 28 points. On the road, we look timid and let the other team dictate the tempo and have yet to win a game. I don't know what the answer is. I'm curious as to whether or not Michael Hicks will be in the starting lineup next game. He did not start the second half today, and had another weak game. He was limited to 16 minutes, and committed 5 turnovers. He had a couple defensive lapses as well. He figures to be the odd man out of the starting rotation when Scott Robisch becomes eligible, but I'm not too sure he'll be starting in front of Joel Cornette much longer. The trips to TCU and Santa Clara will be murder if we don't turn things around away from home.

Hopefully returning to the friendly confines of Hinkle Fieldhouse will get this team back on track. Our next two games are at home, starting with Belmont on Saturday, December 18, at 2:00. Hope to see you there.
