DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

Stop me if you've heard this one: Butler has a lead on the road at halftime, appears to be in control of the game, and then inexplicably folds in the second half and loses by 10 points or less. Sound familiar? It should at this point, because just about every road game this season has followed that script, and last night was no different. Butler held a 5 point lead at the half, and pushed it out to 12 in the second half thanks to a 9-0 run. But once again we folded, and CSU outscored us 29-9 from that point on to maintain their hold on first place in the conference. This time Butler's defense wasn't the issue. We held the Vikings 15 points below their MCC-leading scoring average of 78.6, and even below our league-leading defensive average of 55.5. We hit just 5 field goals in the second half, our leading scorer was 1-11 from the field before leaving with an ankle injury, we made just half of our 22 free throw attempts, and we turned the ball over 23 times. Thomas Jackson led the way with 16 points, but his 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio took a huge nosedive last night as he coughed up 9 turnovers on just 2 assists. LaVall Jordan pulled down 7 rebounds, but was forced out of the game shortly after making his only basket of the evening when he sprained his ankle. Coach Collier said after the game that his status for the Detroit game on Saturday is uncertain. Joel Cornette added 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks for Butler.

Things don't get any easier this Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to preseason MCC favorite Detroit. This game will be televised on Fox Sports Midwest, so tune in Saturday at 2:00 for the Bulldogs vs. the Titans.
