DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

I try to keep these summaries fairly neutral, but I have to admit that I really can't stand Evansville. I had a couple of run-ins with some of their obnoxious fans during my years at Butler, and my disdain for that University will never go away. So today's spanking of the Purple Aces couldn't have made me happier. AND it was on national TV. The Bulldogs certainly gave the fans plenty to cheer about. Leading the way was junior LaVall Jordan, who had 24 points on 10-13 shooting and also pulled down 8 rebounds. Such a high percentage is even more impressive when you add in that he was 4-6 from downtown. Sophomore Thomas Jackson wasn't the scorer he was against ISU, but he used the extra attention he drew from the defense to create opportunities for other. He had 5 assists, most of them from when he would drive in the lane, collapse the defense, and dish out to an open teammate for a 3. Mike Marshall had 12 points and 8 rebounds, and a couple of spectacular dunks for the ESPN highlight reel. But perhaps the most impressive jam of the afternoon didn't count. Freshman Joel Cornette flew through the lane after a missed shot and put it back with a nasty one-hand jam, but a foul was called on Evansville before he got to the ball. Nonetheless, it was a jaw-dropping dunk, and a nice look at what we can expect to see over the next four years out of him. Sophomore Rylan Hainje added 9 points, and freshman sharpshooter Darnell Archey continued to light it up off the bench with 8 points. And to put a cap on the afternoon, crowd favorite Jason Myers nailed a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from well behind the arc. The Bulldogs held the Aces to 33% shooting for the game, and an abysmal 19% from downtown. Those numbers get even uglier when you toss out the impressive performance of UE's Craig Snow, the only player that really showed up for them.

The Bulldogs take to the road this week. The first stop will be at Eastern Illinois on Tuesday, December 7. I won't be able to listen to much of the game, so there probably won't be much of a review.
