DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

We got lucky. That's the best way I can put it. Loyola had us on the ropes, but couldn't deliver the knockout punch as Butler escaped with a 61-57 victory in the first round of the MCC Tournament. The Ramblers employed a "Hack-a-Shaq" type defense against us, and very nearly made it work. We were an abysmal 9-30 from the line at one point in the second half, but managed to hit 8 of our last 10 when it counted. A clutch steal by Thomas Jackson helped erase an 8-point deficit. Despite the wretched 17-40 from the charity stripe, there were some highlights. Mike Marshall had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Unfortunately, those numbers could have been even better had Mike done better than 4-15 at the line. Jackson finished with 9 points and 6 assists. Andrew Graves added 10 points and 5 assists. And sharpshooter Darnell Archey did what he does best, knocking down three 3-pointers for 9 points. Chris Williams led the Ramblers with 19 points.

Up next for the Bulldogs would be Wisconsin-Milwaukee, who knocked off state rival Wisconsin-Green Bay in their first round match-up.
