Butler suffered from a lack of an inside game, which was mainly due to early foul trouble. Mike Marshall and Joel Cornette fouled out after playing 16 and 17 minutes respectively, and our bench players simply didn't get it done. UNCW's bench outscored Butler's 36-17. Other negatives were Michael Hicks' performance from the field (0-6), only dishing out 4 assists all game, and a 7-12 effort from the free throw line in the second half. There were some positives. First and foremost was the continued emergence of LaVall Jordan. He had a career high 17 points and shot the ball with confidence. Andrew Graves was the lone bright spot off our bench, hitting 2 key 3-pointers and adding a 6-6 effort at the line. We also went 7-13 from 3-point range as a team.
The Bulldogs look to regroup within the friendly confines of Hinkle Fieldhouse, where they will play their next 3 games. The first of these is the home opener, which is Sunday, November 28 against 1999 NCAA Tournament participant Mount St. Mary's. Game time is 2:00 pm. Hope to see you there.
